When reality and story idea don't mix.
So in Sweden, where I'm from, becoming pregnant while single in the early 1960s came with its own set of challenges. If you kept the baby, and did not marry the father, child services would automatically make house calls to see that your living standards were up to par and that you weren't leading an "immoral" life. Some of these ladies (they were always ladies) were of course nice and helpful but most were not - at least according to my mother who was a single mother in the early sixties and had a thing or two to say about them, and some names she used to call them, that would not be permitted on the forums. :)
So when Barbara became pregnant I looked forward to some challenges, only to realise that in SF at the time, there was no such thing as child services coming automatically, only if a woman was reported, and with Barbs living in the epicentre of counterculture the odds of that happening is next to none. So I guess she just goes on with life... ah well. I'm sure she'll get herself in trouble somehow anyway. (Next episode coming this weekend, I promise).
