In real life toddlers are 12 to 36 months old. So we are missing more age groups in the games:
Preschoolers who are 3-6 years old.
Children who are 7-9 years old.
Preteens who are 10-12 years old (13-19 years olds are teens).
But the problem is that it costs EA money to make so many age groups (with different heights and thus also different interactions). So it wouldn’t make sense unless they also had different abilities. To differ between preschoolers and children wouldn’t make sense and be worth it if their only difference would be that children can go to school. In the same way it wouldn’t be worth it to differ between children and preteens if the only difference would be their different heights. So while I agree that the preteens in this game only are renamed children I also understand why EA has done it this way.
Young adults were introduced in TS2 as a new age group for university students. But without the university what should the difference between young adults and normal adults then be?
Technically, I believe the preteen life stage is the Child life stage with a different name and appearance. The preteens go to elementary school just like children in the main Sims games."BuzzBuzz;c-16166653" wrote:

I agree. In the game it is only a choice of name. But the school doesn’t matter to me because I live in Denmark where the middle school just became another part of primary school back in 1958 where the Danish education system thus abandoned the old middle school that we therefore only had from 1903 to 1958.- Since we got the toddler life stage back in January (?), I think it's defiantly possible to add more life stages in. Maybe in January or February, we can get a preteens (my dream life stage <3 ). I'm obsessed with this life stage being added into the game. I really want to see them in the Sims 4. With preteens, it can serve as a substitute for short teens.
Preteens (12-14 years) are leaving childhood and entering into adolescence. I see them kids who are almost teenagers or kids in their early teens. Compared to children, preteen sims are taller. I think preteens are going to be nearly as tall as the adults. Their bodies changed and minds matured due to development (puberty). Here are some of the traits of development:
Girls: Preteen girls developed some curve and small breasts-A and B cup (Note: Some may still have board-flat chests from lack of breast development).
Boys: Preteen boys' voices might range from prepubescent to deep depending on when their voices cracked. Other traits include a bit of facial hair.
It's not only physical traits. Mental and emotional traits include mood swings and mature (or immature) minds and actions. Preteens' interest in opposite genders increase and might show less respect to parents at times. Preteens want to be independent (cooking, cleaning, and fixing things on they're own).
CAS: Preteens doesn't have CAS like children or younger. Their CAS is basically the same as teen and up. You can select walking styles and all of that. We can also sculpt body parts and have muscle sliders for them. Preteens come with two traits, all unnatural hair colors, and mixed mature/childish clothing or hairstyles.
Gameplay: Preteens go to middle school Monday through Friday. They can care for toddlers unlike a child. They can also fix broken electronics, cook and prepare meals, work out to lose weight or gain muscle, do group dancing (Get Together required), and do the majority of things an older Sim can do (except woohoo). Preteens can babysit (babies, toddlers, and pets) and earn money. They can still to childish things like play with child objects and stuff.
Relationships: Preteens can have a few romantic interactions. The romance is more of puppy love, nothing serious.
-First kiss (aww)
-Regular kiss
-Kiss on cheek/peck on cheek
-Hug/Embrace
-Hold and rock hands
-Flirt
-Cuddle on couch
Preteens can have a few sexual orientations such as straight, bisexual, and gay.
Life Stage Icon idea- older kid wearing a baseball hat or a kid riding on a skateboard
Traits: Mature, Childish, Cool (gains all the friend and popularity; gets positive moodlets), Lame (makes less friends, less popularity), Geek (into video games and comic books; raise up entertainment needs and bring good moodlets),
Notes: Preteens may enter the rude and disrespectful phase to adults. Preteens may also be moody and experience acne like teens. Like teens, Preteens are addicted to technology, the social media, and music.
Aspirations: Popularity, Knowledge, Athletic, Creativity,
Notes: there will have to be preteen ghosts, aliens, manniquins, and vampires - I completely agree with this. I need preteens in my game for some of the families I want to create. We're probably never going to get preteens or younger teens though since so many people don't want them.

You know what, pay no attention to them. They don't work for Maxis.- Briana25268 years agoSeasoned AceYou already know I agree with this idea. 1000%

I also need Preteens for my families because I'm story telling and preteens are needed. - BUMP!!

- Cynna10658 years agoSeasoned AceTo be honest, I've never seen the need for pre-teens in the series. However, now that teens are just as large as adults -- and, they can do pretty much everything that an adult can do, including woohoo -- I tend to agree that an intermediary life state would be nice.
Children suddenly sprouting to adult-size is just as disconcerting as babies that used to suddenly sprout into much older children. There needs to be some sort of middle ground to give more of an impression of a smooth progression from one state to another. Toddlers were very helpful to that end. Perhaps, pre-teens would be the same.
However, as popular as the idea seems to be on this board, I don't hold out much hope for it. "Dannydanbo;c-16210850" wrote:
It's against the rules to BUMP threads.
It's possible to have a life stage for every year of a sims life, like a human grows. It just isn't ever going to happen. This is it.
Not exactly, only if you keep doing it like 6 times lol.
