History, Lore, and a Tour:

Many years ago, Newcrest was founded by a group of investors who found a sizable plot of land that they then divided into smaller parcels for residential lots. And with it came a small community of buildings that slowly built up into a downtown area for the residents of the neighborhood.

The first building to appear was built by the early generation of the Goth family. The tall brick structure was established in the early 1900s and was considered one of the tallest buildings in the area for its time. Despite the Goth family not living in Newcrest, the eldest member frequented the city nearly daily with a group of investors, builders, and others who were said to be the Goth's bodyguards. Despite having no official evidence, it was rumored that the Goth family was the ring leader of the local mafia that ran an underground ring of illegal booze trade. However, either the police were not able to find any evidence, or as some suspected, they might have been paid off to keep quiet.

As of right now, TGB, or The Goth Building, is now considered a historical location for the Newcrest area. The shop front available to the public houses a small antique/junk shop for those looking for a lost treasure.

However, if you were to look closer, you would find a secret entrance to the stairwell that takes the members of Goth's employees to the upper levels of the building. The upper floors give refuge for those seeking a place to recuperate, find medical help, sleep, eat, or even spy on their neighbors. If you're looking for the head of the Goth family, the top floor is their office. As for the roof... what happens on the roof stays on the roof.

Now, the antique shop isn't the only venue for this old location. If you have the right VIP status and are in the know, find your way to the back of the building and have a short conversation with the bouncer waiting at the door. Head down the stairs when allowed, and you'll find yourself in the Miss Bernadette's Burlesque bar. The dancers take the stage every weekend, and some weeknights, and the place has seen its fair share of celebrities. As you enter, many of these are displayed in their photos on the wall. The most famous is Miss Bernadette the original Burlesque dancer. Her image of when she started sits next to her last portrait, taken some years before she passed on. Although she finished life in politics, she started it as a dancer entertaining the likes of John Wayne, Bing Crosby, Audry Hepburn, and others.

The bathrooms for the club can be found in the sub-basement; however, don't go through the curtains unless you've been given exclusive permission. The passage beyond is for those who like to gamble at a game of cards, and past that is one of the last remaining tunnels from the original tunnel system that ran beneath the city. It is now used to make beer, nectar, and other illegal drinks for the club and distribution.

⭐ Note: There is a hidden VIP Exclusivity Door at the brick door. This is to bring a bouncer and only allow VIP sims entrance while keeping the aesthetics of the building. If you lower the walls completely, you'll be able to see the VIP door to be able to click on it.

The neighboring building to TGB is The Dinner's Hall . If all you're looking for is a quick bite, then stop on by Bailey's Burgers. There's no indoor seating, but if the weather is right, there are outdoor tables available.

However, if fine dining is more to your liking, then head up to the second floor to the Red Room Restaurant. There's plenty of seating that overlooks the bay and the amphitheater as the chefs create your dinner on the upper floor. (This is where the bathrooms are also located.)

And if being close to a restaurant is appealing, head up the stairs in the back of the building that will lead you to the top studio apartment. It might be small but offers all the basic necessities for a tiny living. (It IS completely functional and has been tested.)

Another older building established a few years after TGB is The Green Stone. Named for the green stone used to construct it. Although the building has seen businesses come and go, it currently houses a collection of new and old venues. The first floor has a floral shop that offers all sorts of different flowers and fauna for a plant lover's home. Next to it is a laundromat that has been around for quite some time. You never know who you might find hanging out there.

Above these is a newer business. The second floor had recently been renovated to bring in Candy's Boba Tea and Consignment shop. If coffee is more to your liking, then head up one more floor to the Fern Gully Cafe.

The very top of The Greens is a greenhouse that helps supply fresh flowers for the flower shop and herbs and veggies to the neighboring restaurants.

On the corner sits another relic; The Regent's Building. Originally built by a wealthy man who sought to grow roots in Newcrest, the building has seen its fair share of changes. Currently, the ground floor is a quicky mart. A simple shop to get all your basic needs, novelties, and drinks.

Above that is Borgin Books. A family-owned bookstore that offers the latest best sellers to bargain books near the door. If you just want to sit and read, there is cozy seating near a makeshift fireplace. (We can't have real fire around so many books.)

Are you an artist in need of a place to be creative? Then above Borgin's is the Art Studio. Come in and paint a still life, a portrait, or craft a new piece of pottery. It's also great for kids with the kid's craft table.

The very top of TRB is a great place to hang out and spend time with friends.

Volkov Warehouse was once a thriving factory before it suddenly shut down. No one knows why, only that one day, everyone was laid off, and the building was left abandoned for many years. It wasn't until recently that it was purchased and renovated into the different venues it is now. The ground floor is a nail salon where you can get your mani or pedi. For an additional cost, you can head downstairs to get a massage or spend time in the sauna. A special key card will be needed to gain access to the neighboring gym.

Above the nail salon is a Chinese restaurant where you can get your favorite udon noodle bowl. And above that is the two-floor loft apartment. It has a great view of the city from its top-floor balcony.

One of the biggest controversies was the destruction of a small store owned by the Grampletons. The grandparents were one of the original settlers of Newcrest and had built a quaint shop to sell their handmade items. In their early years, newly married, they settled in Newcrest and brought their wares of knitted beanies and onesies, crafted with love and care by Juliet, and wooden ducks, statues, and knife blocks by Sterling. For many years their shop was loved by all those that lived in Newcrest and many more who visited. However, times got tough, and the Grampletons nearly went bankrupt. Unfortunately, despite the protests of the towns folk, the bank foreclosed on the small business, and it was bought out by the Landgraab family. Too soon, the small shop was demolished, and The Landgraab parking garage was built in its place. The residents of Newcrest protested the new and unsightly structure, but it fell on deaf ears. And to make matters worse, the Landgraabs hired a construction company known to do shotty work, but on the cheap. If possible, leaving your car at home and walking downtown or taking a bus is recommended.

(⭐ Note: I didn't create the motorcycle on the top level. It was built by MagnussKuchen!! I am allowed to use it and am giving credit as per requested.)

One of the newest structures to DtN is the Powerhouse Gym. A dilapidated building threatened the neighboring structures but was thankfully torn down before it could crumble and do damage. In its place now stands a six-floor gym and training facility. You can sign in on the ground floor and even drop off your little ones into the care of its trained staff of child-care workers before making your way either up or down stairs depending on what kind of exercise you're looking for. If you go up, you can find boxing and kickboxing training. Above that are the treadmills with a yoga class on the top floor. If you head downstairs, you will find the multi-trainer exercise machines with access to the showers and spa, while the climbing walls are located on the lowest floor.

The final building is Newcrest Cinema. Constructed at the same time as the Goth building, it was a popular attraction for both the locals and those from the surrounding cities. Although some of the façade has been updated, it still has the original architecture, including the gargoyles that protect the building.

Back in the day, buying tickets was done just outside the building and is still done the same way to this day. Inside, you can purchase your overpriced theatre snacks and see promotions for the current and upcoming movies with a small seating area to sit, wait, or eat. The upper two floors have a small theater, and also where the restrooms are, and also the larger theater.

However, if you work there, you are likely to find out about the Old Theater. Back in the day, there used to be a lower floor theater, but over the years and the many renovations, the basement was no longer used to show movies. Instead, it became a place for storage, among other things. Some say it's haunted. Others claim it's just creepy but harmless. You can be the judge.

The Underground: A narrow pathway left over from the days when there were tunnels under the city. One particular spot tends to attract the less fortunate. The homeless. A perfect spot for a Rags to Riches in the City.

There's an entrance for the dancers of Madam Bernadette's Burlesque club, or you could keep going down and round to the entrance of the local nightclub.

In the mood for a cozy bar where everyone knows your name? Then head on down to Zesty's Bar. The entrance is the stairs between the two buildings and heads down into the underground, first door to your left. There's a place for everyone. Where you can laugh, cry, spill your heart to the bartender, or dance the night away. Sometimes they even have a small live band to entertain the locals.

Many might walk right past the entrance, but if you know, you know where the entrance to the Midnight Moon nightclub is. A great place to dance and perhaps hook up with a hottie.

Newcrest has been with us for some time, and I wanted to give it a proper downtown area where many venues were available and a couple of residential apartments for gameplay. As I built DtN, myself and my community on Twitch came up with history and lore for the small city as each section was built. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did building it. It has been a labor of love, time and energy. Building Downtown Newcrest has taken roughly six months, working on it every week with my Twitch community.

Extra Notes:

Built on the 50x40 lot in Newcrest.

Marked as a Generic lot, but you can change it to be Residential, Restaurant, Retail, Spa, Gym, Library, Lounge, Nightclub, and Bar.

This is a no CC build; however, it does use many packs.

PLEASE, DO NOT REUPLOAD!! Be kind and respectful, and do not claim it as your own. Player tested, Sim approved.

Here are a few mods I would recommend for this build:

LittleMsSam's Live in Business. If you would like to change it to a residential lot but still have the community features, this mod will give you that ability.

Ravasheen's Film Reaper Functional Movie Theater. This mod turns any location into the Movie theater rabbit hole that came with Growing Together. **You will need the Growing Together EP for this mod to work**

Ravasheen's The Daily Sim paper. This mod a functional newspaper that you can get from the blue newspaper stand.

Ravasheen's Functioning Garage door. If you want to allow for the door in the Quick stop to open and be used replace both objects with this one door. Don't forget to lock it for employees only.

Ravasheen's Filthy Fabulous 1 &
Ravasheen's Filthy Fabulous 2 : perfect for Rags to Riches in the City.

That is an epic build! Newcrest is a great world in that it's so flexible and you can do anything with it (I used that same lot to build a gay village, no where near what you've done, but it's been my most ambitious single build yet).

That sounds so cool!! I bet it's awesome!
  • Just a gentle reminder of this lot. It has multiple venue options, including at least two apartments, a 'gang' hideout, and an underground 'homeless' area—a great lot for the upcoming expansion, For Rent.
