I wish for a General Knowledge skill that raises while in school, from boardgames and reading encyclopedia. I don't know what it might be useful for other than boardgames and grades, but it would be nice to have.

Your system is one of the things you never know you want, until you see it. I'd use it all the time! Maybe there could be actions that negatively impact the bar other than neglect. For the coffee lover example that might be drinking any other beverage except for water. Water is for hydration, therefore non-negotiable and neutral towards the coffee need bar. But why drink soda or tea when you could have coffee?
