What direction would you like to see The Sims to go?

I have seen people express a lot of different ways that they would like to see The Sims functions or is created. So I'm very curious as to what y'all think as to the way the game is set up. I'll run the same poll on Twitter and post results when I have them.

If you choose to vote, I'd be interested to know why you voted in such a way.

Not as many votes over on twitter, but here are the results:

I am happy the way it is single player no changes needed there!
  • The day they make Sims online is the day EA stops getting my money.

    • VR means you are a participator in the game and that's not how I play. My playing style is controlling other characters, switching perspectives, I don't even play a sim self. I don't want to be a part of their world, I want to be the outsider. And I'd feel very uneasy if that would change.
    • As for multiplayer online: playing Sims for me is living a virtual life inside my own bubble, that's what I love. No-one's allowed on my cloud as long as I play. Sharing afterwards what happened on that cloud is a different matter of course.
    • Single player, offline, sandbox: the only way I'm interested in.
    • Combination: I fear that when they will combine those options, it will all become half-baked. And I'd rather have they will bake my preferenced style perfectly.

    Exactly this.
  • Multiplayer because it would be The Sims Online again. I really miss it. Met a lot of nice people and had a nice home where other fellow simmers would come over and visit. I had some nice roommates too. Anyway, only downside, playing online does make it harder to go back to playing offline. I got spoiled because of the things one could do online that couldn't be done in the offline version. My favorite was being able to skill my sim while I built my home. Would be a great feature in the regular sims.
  • VR is kind of a meme imho and would make no sense with the 3rd-person viewpoint used in the Sims series.

I'm not against have some sort of optional multiplayer features but the core game needs to remain offline single player. Trying to force an online multiplayer onto what has traditionally been a single player sandbox game tends to backfire (see: SimCity (2013). Plus, I think a lot of us who play this game do so because we are at least in part control freaks, and I doubt most of us want other people messing around in the carefully crafted and personally tuned digital ecosystems we've created for ourselves.
  • FYI there's a multiplayer mod that's meant to be released in May.

Not sure how it will work, but it will be interesting to say the least even though I'm not a fan of the concept.

I think if multiplayer comes to the franchise, there's going to be a lot of broken friendships - can you imagine if someone killed or impregnated one of your Sims...yikes!
