Spoiler
It didn’t take more than a moment for Cameron to decide he’d done the right thing when he told Angie he’d like to ask her out. He remembered the advice his mom had given him, when he first talked to her about his feelings for a girl.
Trust your instincts, Cam. Trust your heart.
Since Cam had never felt his heart break, he believed his “gut feelings” could be trusted. And discovering whether he and Angie could possibly be more than friends simply felt right.
Now, another important decision became relevant. What should they do on their first date?
Cameron had been involved in three relationships. All of them began with “big events,” such as Prom or a Winterfest party. Their first dates had, basically, been planned for them. This time, the logistics were different. Cam wanted to pick something they would both enjoy.
He thought about getting his parents’ advice, but he decided to talk to a few of his trusted friends first. His parents had gone on their first date over twenty years ago. Times had changed.
Cam knew what kind of advice Tim Horton would give him, but he wanted to hear it from the source himself. “You’ve got to go big, Cam,” his ebullient friend declared. “Make an impression. Be unforgettable.”

“Is that what you did when you asked Ava out the first time?”
“No, but I wish I had,” Tim reflected. “You only have one first date. Make it epic.”
“Like what?”
Tim thought for a moment. “Take her to the fanciest restaurant there is. Maybe the Lykke Centre Grille in Windenburg or The Crooked Table out in Del Sol Valley. Bust out your best suit. Dazzle her. Sweep her off her feet.”
Cameron laughed. “Got it.”
Seeking a different perspective, Cameron next spoke with Summer Holiday. That is, he spoke with her after his hearing was restored; Summer’s squeal of excitement when she heard Cam was planning to ask Angie out made his ears ring.

“Y’all are going to be SUCH a CUTE couple!” Summer gushed. “I know you’re not a couple yet,” she corrected herself. “But ohmigosh, Cam…y’all are just too right for each other.”
Cameron told Summer what Tim had suggested for a first date. She briskly shook her head. “No, hun. A fancy dinner will just make both of you feel extra pressure. You need to keep it casual. Maybe go back to Willow Creek Family Park. Then it will be ‘your place.’ Does that make sense?
“It does.”

“You live in Brindleton Bay,” Summer mused. Maybe…something like a walk on the beach at Cavalier Cove or out on Deadgrass Isle. You can relax and talk and connect. Just the two of you.”
Cameron nodded. “Got it.”
Other friends offered different suggestions.
Nile Kinnick: “Bowling. You can’t go wrong with bowling.”
Willow Petersen: “A festival in San Myshuno. Unless it’s the Romance Festival. You don’t need to deal with flirty strangers who have been hitting the Sakura Tea.”
Lauren Kilgore: “Your place. You’re living in a really cool house in Brindleton Bay, right? The two of you will have privacy.”
Harry Bailey: “Anywhere but your place. That’s a little too…something for a first date.”
Matty Disco: "Boogie down."
These deliberations left Cameron no closer to a decision than he’d been before. At that point, he decided to ask the man he knew best: his dad.
“People are giving me lots of good ideas,” Cam told Dan. “The problem is that I can’t pick the best one.”
Dan thought for a moment. “Nothing says you have to pick just one. Plan more than one thing. Maybe something quiet and something active.”

Cameron beamed. “Good call, Dad. Thanks.”
“Anytime, son.”
After this experience, actually calling Angie and arranging the date seemed very easy. Maybe that’s why it happened, Cameron told himself.
Angie’s heart did a funny little flip when she learned that Cameron was the one who had set off her ring tone. Cam sounded a bit nervous, too. Angie thought it was cute.
They chatted for a few minutes before Cameron got to the real business of his call.
“We’d talked about going on a date…”
“Yes?” Don’t sound TOO anxious, silly…Angie told herself.
“...Yes, and…I thought we could have dinner at Rustic Sails Seafood and…go for a walk afterwards. How does that sound?”
Angie felt herself blush. I was hoping he wouldn’t pick something really fancy, she thought. And I’m glad he didn’t pick a workout, or something like that.
“I think that sounds perfect. I'd love to.”

Both Angie and Cameron thought they could hear the other person smile over the phone.
