Will Wright Community Center (Lot Type/Pack Idea)

Sims 4 Community Center Idea

Briefly: A new lot where sims can go to learn painting, woodworking, cooking and much more.

New LOCKED lot: "Will Wright Community Center" (This would either come in a new community-oriented world/pack* or as a downloadable lot from the gallery along with a patch update.** This lot is not editable. Like Jungle Adventure temples or city districts in City Living, the classroom inside the community center will evolve to suit its needs). Basic Skill Classes are taught in the community center. Items will spawn in the classroom depending on the subject. Some days the classroom will be full of woodworking tables (handiness class), some days easels (painting class), or computers (writing or programming class), or ovens (cooking class), or microphones (comedy), etc. etc. There will be an NPC instructor teaching each class.

Sims 3 had rabbit hole skill classes on various lots. For this pack/update there would be active skill classes in one special community center lot. A sim will be able to  register for any skill class on their phone, and when they arrive to the lot, the classroom will be set up appropriately. Random skill class events will generate as well, or if your sim registers for a specific class, the event will be set up and ready when you arrive. Classes cost like $50-$200, let's say.

Each class will have some goals like "discuss with classmate" "get to know instructor" and, ultimately (depending on the class) "cook group meal" or "paint a medium abstract" or "perform improvised comedy routine," etc, etc. The more goals they accomplish, the higher their skill reward will be (they could gain nothing, a half a point, a whole point, etc). They get to take home the artwork/meal/comedy routine/sculpture they create in the class.

*A Community-Oriented pack could be a nice way to add some wholesome, family fun (lol that sounds dumb). A lot of simmers are asking for more universal gameplay as opposed to sort of standalone experience packs (Strangerville, University tba, Jungle Adventure). I'm definitely thinking lemonade stands, and maybe slightly more structured yard sale events, and block parties, etc. could be added here. This pack might also fulfill some of the community's needs for more "Generations," "Freetime," or Senior Citizen gameplay.

**A patch update that adds this (optional) new community center lot and active skill class feature would be relatively non-invasive. The lot would be downloadable from your library like spas and bowling alleys. You can place the build on any lot, except it would not be editable (as items in the classroom would need to spawn depending on the subject of the class). This sort of reminds me of the challenges that were patched in like Plantsim challenge of the Positivity challenge, except its a new goaled event and a way to learn skills.
  • I would be totally down for this. At first glance there's not a lot of pizazz but as I visualize how it would play out, I see myself using it a lot. It would be a super nice way to switch up skill-building.

You don't say anything about other attendees. Do you picture other sims in the class and if so, how many? Would they be played/unplayed/mixed? If you go into their household later, would their skill point have increased also?

Personally, I see this in the middle of another Newcrest type hood. I could definitely use another empty world with clustered small lots and this as the centerpiece.
  • @bubbajoe621 class size couldn’t be too large. I believe only 15 sims generate on one lot at a time (or something like that). So possibly a max class size of 6-10. I would definitely like sims to be able to register their friends or family members and they can all participate in a class together.

As far as townie classmates actually gaining points, I suppose it could go either way: they could gain a skill or not. But I am a fan of townie actions not having a real effect (like when someone spends $1,000 on a yard sale item, they won’t actually lose funds).
