28 years of life, over 25 years as a devoted player, and I give up.

Today I opened my browser with the intention of warning that many of us, loyal The Sims players for more than two decades, are tired of being treated like fools. I became an architect because of my history with The Sims. My older sister and I live in different countries, and for years our shared passion for the game kept us connected. The Sims has always been one of our favorite investments, the source of countless funny conversations, especially because she became a civil engineer and I became an architect thanks to our love for the game.

Today, we are done. There is simply no way to justify paying an absurd subscription fee just to keep the game updated. I have been battling depression for the last three years, and during that time I stepped away from the game for a few months. Now that I decided to come back, I realized I would need to spend more than 1000 reais just to update it again. That is not just disrespectful, it is insanity. It assumes we are crazy enough to keep fueling this scheme.

Do not forget: it is us, the millennials and late 90s Gen Z, who still have the means to spend this kind of money on a game. But we are also the generation that hates being taken for fools. And EA, with a pot of gold sitting in one of the most loyal communities in gaming history, you are consciously testing our limits, knowing exactly what this will mean for the future of the franchise. This is shooting yourselves in the foot, something no other company would dare to do.

I truly hope you learn from this mistake before the numbers themselves prove us right. But here is my message on this forum: EA, if while we treat you with flowers and chocolates you keep delivering us this, then may competition and capitalism show you exactly what we are capable of doing, unfortunately for you.

OP I feel like some simmers have been rude to you in this thread.

Your opinion matters and there is no argument when you are expressing your opinion on how you feel about the game.

people need a place like Off Topic to blow steam and it looks like some of these simmers took their steam off on you.

You have every right to post how you feel about the game and I would just ignore any simmers that have upset you with their comments in this thread. I agree with you on most of your points.

I love your avi by the way!❤️

How about us who already have bought packs and have a "full" game?  Do you really believe we would accept someone else to get their missing packs for free, just because they had some pause playing? 😆

    • The Sims 3 : $2000
    • The Sims 4 : $1500

Both games are broken, these $3500 seem to be a "bad investment" so it's not surprising if long-term players decide to leave after being patient for decades.

And I don't count the other bad investments :

    • Mass Effect Andromeda
    • Anthem
    • Dragon Age The Veilguard
    • Star Wars The Old Republic
    • SimCity (2013)
    • Apex Legends

This situation does not work in EA's favor.

  • You pay a subscription fee for the game? Personally, I use the EA app for free and have not spent money on the game in almost 2 years. I only buy packs that fit my style of gameplay when they are at 50% off or more. I can even update my own game without spending money. It is up to each person that they spend on video games as a form of entertainment. As a Gen X, I have played the franchise since my early 20s. I do get that the game may disappoint some people, but that is a personal issue they need to explore.
