Birthday cake always gets eaten

The post there says that cakes with candles on them are also eaten, yes, I have that problem too. But my problem is also that I can't even put candles on them. 
I wish that no cake could be eaten automatically. This solves both problems.

Cakes have to be placed in a specific part of the counter or table to be able to be interacted with in regards to putting on candles and blowing out candles. 

That's not the issue. I can't put candles on the cake because other Sims are already taking a piece, and then the "put candles on" action is canceled.

I want to be able to celebrate birthdays without the stress of other Sims automatically eating the cake. With or without candles.
It's always a hassle, and you practically have to have two cakes on hand so you have one in reserve. That's not enjoyable gameplay.

Solution: No cake should be eaten automatically. Not by household members, not by NPCs. With or without candles.

With just a few Sims, at home, and without guests, sure, it's probably playable.
But if you have around 4-7 Sims in your household and invite another 4-15 guests, you can expect that some Sim will eat the cake, leaving none to celebrate the birthday.

On a community lot, this is even more unpredictable, as uninvited Sims will quickly grab the cake and eat it. It's really frustrating and no fun at all.
I'd really like to be able to celebrate big birthdays and invite family and friends without ending up with no "birthday" because the birthday person can't age up since the candles can't be blown out.

I am not a big fan of Birthday parties or birthday cakes, and I know all too well about the frustration and stress that comes with this event. So I don't celebrate every birthday, instead I give the birthday child some Elixir to make them happy, and eventually they will get over it. 😈
