[GALLERY] Default sort order changed to most popular

It should give you filter on how you want the gallery to show you things. If you want the new or popular ones showing first. Making it an individuals choice what they want to see first.

I am not a fan of the gallery changes. I realize that it is as simple as checking a box. I have noticed that when I do switch over to the newest builds view, that the gallery items are NOT getting very many  likes or downloads. I am confused by the profile view, my featured build shows in the upper left corner, but the rest are my household uploads.... I am mostly a builder and have only uploaded maybe 5 households, if someone goes to my profile page they are going to assume that I am a household creator.....

On a side note... Whatever happened to the NEWS tab? We were assured that it was going to be brought back and here we are years later and nothing.

I'm going to echo what many others have said, I DESPISE the new gallery format. I don't want to see the same 5 builds/sims every time I open the gallery, ESPECIALLY since most of them are a decade+ old. My engagement completely tanked and it makes me not want to upload anything any more.

I also think the public gallery should be sorted by newest. Being sorted by ‘most popular’ only encourages those users who are gaming the system by flooding the gallery with catfish Sims using default replacement cc that isn’t flagged as custom content to rack up downloads from unsuspecting users. I avoid the most popular tag for this very reason, as it’s usually just the same few users spamming. On the build side, it’s just stuff from 2014 so I never look there either. Alternatively, giving us the option to block users would greatly improve the gallery experience.

Anyway, please hear our feedback and bring back the old library sorting. Thank you

I feel like sorting the gallery to newest creation by default overall is the right way to go, for all of the incredibly good reasons listed in this thread. A menu setting to change your own personal gallery default filter could also possibly be implemented if someone for whatever reason prefers it the way it is right now. Though I've yet to see anyone who agrees with the new change. Everyone I've spoken to about this is highly disappointed with the new system and want it reset back to the way it was (myself included). The gallery still needs a lot of work, but the sorting of the creations popularity system was not one of them. 

Oh, this explains why when I went to my gallery page yesterday everything was all mixed up and wrong and I had trouble finding the build I was looking for.

Sorting by Popular by default has always struck me as foolish.  It hides perfectly good things (on any gallery) that happen to be new and/or by not particularly well known names behind stuff that tends to be old and probably outdated.  I'm willing to bet that some of the simmers with "most popular" builds really wish they weren't being showcased because they're old and the simmer can now do better - but that better isn't being seen because it's new, not popular.

So yes, Thank you for considering rolling this back.  Tell whatever suits are trying to push this that it's going to hurt downloads, or sales, or whatever trigger metric will get them to realize this is a bad idea.

Defaulting to "Most Popular" comes with a host of problems.  Not only has it been tried and reverted in the past, but it ignores any CURRENT creators.  Most Popular comes with long time user, but not necessarily current user and so it is going to take a very long time to churn new creations into most popular creations if they ever get the chance or traction.  
It kills creativity and current trends and makes current ideas invisible unless someone knows a person's gallery name. 
It makes OLD content the only thing that people see, so the same thing gets regurgitated over and over stifiling new creativity.  
Events by content creators become invisible as you no longer see new shell challenges, pack specific etc as by the time a person finds it, it may no longer be relevant or real time.
You bury the small creators with the big creators, and unless someone is in that person's community to look for their gallery name, they will never be found. (way to support thoes that MAY still be looking to be a part of the creator community)
Some of the best builds don't even come from the top creator, they come from someone small or without a community that is just waiting to be discovered and defaulting to Newest allows visibility to ALL creators not just the long time players.

But most of all.  If it ain't broke, it doesn't need fixing.  The only thing broken now about the gallery is how moving the kits and pack selection to marketplace has broken the ability to search by specific packs.  We didn't ask for this, just as we didn't ask for a marketplace cash grab.  We asked to make the game functional and this does none of that.

I personally don’t like this because my Sim style has changed significantly overtime—but since it’s based on “most popular” the first thing players see are sims that no longer represent my “level” of sim creation. I also feel like it makes it more difficult for players to discover your new creations—as both of my sims that I recently shared have received 0 likes—(when usually I get around 1-2 likes after sharing a sim.)
