"Grab a serving" and "pick up a serving" are synonymous. "Grab a serving" should be changed to "eat a serving". Or, heck, even "grab and eat a serving".
This weird phrasing is the most minor complaint, so incredibly trivial, but it irritates me every time I ask my sim to eat something! Why doesn't it just say "eat a serving"??
"Grab a Serving", "Get a Serving" or "Take a Serving" is a common, for self-serving/self-service when getting your own meal, and sounds normal, where I am from. But this can be a vernacular thing.
"Eat a Serving" is what sounds a bit more odd, at least to me. Not that it sounds wrong, just not something I would really hear in real life often, more like doctor, dietitian or health/fitness specialist directed instruction notes, like "eat a serving of protein" daily when doing intense workouts 3-5 times a week.
It's hilarious because where I come from in Poland, we casually say 'Zjedz porcję' – 'Eat a serving' – and nobody bats an eye. It's just... normal dinner talk. We don't even say 'weź porcję' like 'take a portion' or 'grab some'. Nah, we go full polite chaos with 'poczęstuj się' – 'Help yourself, go wild, stuff your face, be my guest'.
So yeah, I totally get why 'Eat a serving' sounds like a slightly threatening command to an English ear. But for me? It's cozy. It's home. It's what your babcia says when she's force-feeding you pierogi for the third time.
And the absolute cherry on top of this linguistic clown car? My Sims 4 in Polish version has the options 'Weź Porcję' (Take a serving) or straight-up 'Zjedz to' – 'Eat it'.
Eat. It.
Like the plate is personally offending the Sim and the only solution is immediate consumption. No romance, no 'help yourself', just raw Slavic 'Zjedz to, bo się zmarnuje, **bleep** mać'.
10/10, would let my virtual family trauma me with portion aggression again.
