Ideas for better integration of Social Bunny/Simstagram etc, + features
This is technically a re-post of a thread I made the other day that was marked as spam. In retrospect, I suspect this to be due to the title talking about "social media integration", without specifying that I meant social media sims themselves can use. [facepalm] Since the title was so misleading, I opted to just delete the old thread and try again. The irony of seeming spammy in doing so does not elude me. I promise I'll leave this thread alone once it's up.
Right now, social media on the sims 4 is really nebulous--for example, we have Social Bunny, Simstagram, and the unspecified "social media" profiles sims can upload business headshots to for their careers. Interactions and outcomes with it are almost entirely arbitrary, and I've spent a lot of time thinking about how I wish things worked. Some of these are probably WAY too advanced to be reasonable, but I'm including them anyway since everything here is already hypothetical.
- First off, all social media is integrated within the Social Bunny app, with a separate tab for Simstagram. (Business headshots would go on Simstagram as well.) Sims can have a "regular" Social Bunny feed without a Simstagram, and vice versa. NPCs your sims follow on Simstagram would occasionally post their own selfies and photos--maybe including player sims if they hang out together for a while, or if the player initiates via "Take a Photo With"
- Social Bunny would also have a Promotions tab--more on that in later bullet points
- Regular Simstagram users build Fame (also true for pet Simstagram pages, just because I think the concept is funny). Sims who gain Fame through Simstagram can "unlock" the option to become a Simfluencer starting at level 2.
- Teen users of Simstagram may gain positive relationships--or infamy--faster with peers in high school if those peers have Simstagram and are socially (in)compatible. They may also be liked or disliked prior to even meeting NPCs.
- Teen sims can brag about pranks they pull while at school on Social Bunny, which may result in an automatic detention the next school day.
- Simfluencers who cheat on their partners in public may lose a substantial amount of followers and career performance
- If a Simfluencer becomes disliked by enough people, they can "Post An Apology Video" to Simstagram, which may or may not repair their relationships/overall reputation somewhat
- Sims who are Mean/Evil and highly charismatic or have a high Acting skill can Post An Insincere Apology Video, which may backfire and make everything even worse
- Sims who own a drone from Get Famous can film themselves practicing a skill and post it online. They may be received well or poorly based on Skill Level.
- EVERY video posted on Simstagram has a chance of giving a sim a negative moodlet due to haters in the comments section. This is more likely to occur with sims with Low Self-Esteem and/or the Socially Awkward trait, and less likely for sims with High Self-Esteem and/or the Self-Assured trait. (In my opinion, these effects should stack.)
- Everything a Sim can make/craft can be Promoted on Social Bunny, including food. Sims may receive texts essentially commissioning a craftable item in your sims' wheelhouse--everything from candles to wedding cakes, provided their skill is high enough, of course.
- Sims who are charismatic enough can Lie About Skill Level when accepting a commission they are not skilled enough for. If caught, the buyer may refuse to pay full price for the final product--if they pay for it at all.
- Sims who promote their craftables would get higher payouts on Plopsy
- Musicians and authors can also Promote their newest songs/books in order to earn higher royalty payouts
- Clubs can also be Promoted on Social Bunny, and sims may receive calls from strangers who meet the criteria asking to join
After-School Activities should also be promoted there because I regularly forget they exist
- "Pop-Up Events" (or whatever a better name for them may be) such as [Insert Skill Here] Groups, Study Groups or Artist Showcases may also spontaneously appear, and can be added to the calendar as a reminder. Players can schedule these just like any other event, but only through Social Bunny (just to keep things compartmentalized). These events are more or less temporary club gatherings with random sims.
- Sims whose craftables can be sold on selling tables can Promote a Yard or Food Sale a day in advance, which may help items sell faster.
- Sims with a high enough skill level to Mentor sims can Promote paid individual lessons on their home lot (provided they have the necessary items, e.g. a piano, an easel, workout equipment, etc)
Whew, this list is a lot longer than I realized. 🤔 To anyone on the sims team who made it this far, thank you for reading!
