Not Enough Jewish Stuff

We don't have a lot of Jewish stuff, at all. There is way more to Jewish culture than Hanukah. There needs to be more traditions added to Seasons to reflect this. There is also no lamb grand meal. A kippah could be added to CAS. I would go on more, but I'm not %100 percent familiar. Feel free to add any additional details.

I would love a multi culture faith stuff, not just Jewish. I would love for there to be Christianity, Hindu, Egyptian/Greek Mythology & many, many others. ;)

Kinda of hard to comment on this being that the forum has rules about religion. I would think that Seasons tried to stay away from any simbalance of orthodox religiosity when you look at the "Christmas" holiday in Seasons. Although it's in the winter months, and presents are exchanged, and it even has a "Santa Claus" so to speak, but it's not called Christmas. There is no Ramadhan either for me. Although there is Arabic or Islamic clothing in the base game. EA tries to appease it's vast cultural market be it Eastern (Japanese) "Snowy Escape", Korean (the clothing), Arabic or middle eastern (the clothing again), and the LGBTQ community (Pride clothing). This game has not just an American market, but it can be found in just about all markets on the globe. EA seemed to give religions (Islamic, Christian, Jewish, Buddhist) clothing, but no real substance in it's game pack. It does not, I believe, want arguments about it's game based on the religion of one being out shined by another. I hope this doesn't cause me any trouble down the line.

They aren't going to put religion in the game and I am fine with that, especially as everyone interprets it differently. But it's nice to have all the objects and interactions that we can use to create celebrations and traditions even if they are traditionally linked to religious events. They could add fasting as a holiday tradition or some other method, because people fast for health reason not just religious. Would be nice if they added more elements for major religions and cultures, and make it possible to create a personalized calendar of celebrations for each household, as it would help make each household different from one another. If I have an Indian family in my game, they shouldn't care for Winterfest but celebrate Diwali and a Chinese family should be able to celebrate Chinese new year with moon cakes and fish grand meal.
  • Id like to see a variety of different cultures (diversity is a good thing!!) shown and an ability to be able to recreate a version of our own faith or others if we choose to. Historically the sims havent been solely secular, nor have they shied away from other controversial topics whether it be related to politics, identity etc so they could definitely add more items like this if they really wanted to ?

Except for clothing items for cultural representation, none of the religions are really represented, and with all the players world wide, it would be hard to do that fairly. The Sims is trying to remain secular in order to be fair to players of all faiths. Christian holidays are represented only by The Sims version of their secular aspects (Easter Bunny/Flower Bunny, Santa Claus/Father Winter, Holiday Trees, Eggs, presents and crackers) and there are holiday items in BB to provide culturally relevant decorations for things like Hanukkah and Chinese New Year, but there aren’t any churches or houses of worship in the worlds, no religious symbols, and no religious activity. I’m okay with that, because when you get faith elements wrong, it can really go bad. I add churches to worlds when I want, and use the club system to create a congregation when needed. I’d rather define my Sims faith than have a development team get it wrong. I do agree that adding more BB items for a variety of faiths would be acceptable, especially if those items are relevant to a larger cultural identity.

Which by definition means ="disassociated from religious ideology". And The Sims franchise will stay "strictly secular". Any seeming favoritism will cause loss of revenue.

    That ship has long sailed.

Now on to the actual topic I'd love to see more Jewish culture added to the game such as children being able to play a game of dreidel and lamb added to the meal options also clothing options such as a kittel which would be great to have for weddings and a kippah would also be nice to have.

  • Fully support the suggestion as 'Jewish' is a culture as well as religion, and a diverse one at that. Nothing like having Jewish friends to make that discovery.

One thing is culture  and other thing is religion based

At objects can be clear the difference, but at clothing.... as there is clothes for cult or mandtory by religion

I don't support religion in or out of game. I would however fully support certain things that come from most cultures (Meals, Sweets, some Decorative Items, some holiday traditions, etc.). Perhaps you could suggest a few particular items that would be important to you. Here is a short list I think would be cool (Not all Jewish)

    • Cuisine - Perhaps you could suggest food for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks that you would think helpful for inclusivity beyond what Jewish foodways currently in game
      • I would make the first suggestion - Latkes
    • Candies & Sweets (Not just Jewish)
      • Babka
        • Chocolate
        • Cinnamon
      • Bouche De Noel (Yule Log Cake)
      • Bunny & Decorated Egg Cookies
      • Gelt
      • Halva
      • Hamantaschen
      • Hanukkah Cookies - Shaped like Dreidel (Thought them cute)
      • Plum Pudding (Christmas Pudding)
    • Clothing
    • Cultural Additions to Flower Arranging
      • Leis from Hawaii
      • Garlands for Kukur Tihar
      • Ikebana
    • Cultural Holiday Traditions
      • Adding Wreaths to Doors (I want this in general as a door update for all seasons and major holiday concepts)
        • Garlic Wreaths
        • Mourning Wreaths
      • Dyeing Eggs
      • I'd accepting Fasting as another Simmer mentioned. They made a valid point on the fact that people fast for many reasons
      • Garlands for Dogs (Would be nice for Weddings too)
      • Holiday Sweaters for Dogs (I'd be cool with a Nifty Knitting Update)
      • Maypoles
      • Oktoberfest - Not only would support, but actively encourage
    • Decorative Items
      • Statuettes & Artwork
      • Perhaps Holiday Themed Table settings - When Sims set the table
      • Table Cloths
    Hanukkah Table Setting
