I’m going to be honest; this isn’t the only franchise that’s plagued by bugs and needs constant patches. Bugs are basically in every game known to man. Now, the introduction of new bugs happens, once again, in all franchises. It’s a byproduct of programming and making something. The reason as to why bugs in the Sims 4 are so prevalent is due to the quantity vs quality mindset the publisher has. Fixing bugs really doesn’t make money whereas releasing a new half-baked pack does. However, there is more to it than that. When you have 100s of developers, things sometimes clash and become almost a requirement for something else to work. Callbacks in code to weird things that, when removed, breaks something else. It’s an eternal loop that has plagued the gaming (and software) industry for a long time.
As for the Skyrim comment, that’s more on the community that ‘loves Bethesda jank’ and gave all the bugs and glitches a free pass. I also want to note that Skyrim was horrid on launch and suffered a lot from it. Mods came along and fixed it, and Bethesda wiped their hands for the most part. One of the most popular mods, at some point, had hundreds, if not a thousand, bug fixes. Just to note, Starfield had the same issues and was not favoured by gamers.
Next point is because why exploit like that when you can easily just give yourself money? It’s a life simulation, not an RPG. Very, very different. You also shouldn’t want bugs to abuse them. It’s a bad mindset to go looking for them or to dwell on them.
Why not be glad that it got fixed? I’m not trying to defend EA, but this isn’t a case of, “LMAO why does EA hate Sims 4 players!? Leaving bugs unpatched.”
The game is 10 years old and needs to be shelved. It’s getting mechanics/things that are seriously hindering the game due to PCs that can’t keep up with it. I would take a barebones Sims 5 over what we have now. While I hope Sims 5 doesn’t do that – spoiler, it will – I can’t stand how laggy Sims 4 is getting, even when my PC surpasses 99% of the average players.
Start on a project that has a stable base, keep that base stable with new DLC/expansions that allow for an easier expansion.
