Patches breaking more than they fix.

EA produces lots of video games. But it seems to me that the sims franchise is the only one that has so many issues, complaints, bugs, and needs constant patches. When EA releases patches to fix bugs and add content updates, they end up introducing new bugs. Then players have to wait for hotfixes and new patch updates. I mean, seriously, who wants to update their game when there is a looming possibility of it breaking after the patch? I've played games with bugs before. I mean, sometimes, depending on the bug. the player can take advantage of it during gameplay. Skyrim is an example of a game I've played, where people were making videos demonstrating how to use bugs to enhance gameplay.

But to my knowledge, no one has ever mentioned finding a bug in the sims 4 that players could use to their advantage. For example, being able to buy groceries from the vendor stalls in henford for free or university students doing poorly on a presentation, but getting a good grade anyway, or a player selling items from the sim's inventory, but the item remains in the sim's inventory, and they keep selling the same item and getting free simoleons.

Instead, there are lists and lists of bugs that break gameplay and then don't get fixed for years. Sometimes, modders release a fix (but not all players use mods) for bugs while players wait for EA to fix it. In the recent patch, EA fixed a bug introduced by discover university, where discovery quests were interrupting event progress. Discover university was released in 2019 and the bug is being fixed in 2024.

I mean, how does EA take up to 5 years to fix bugs while wanting players to continue buying DLCs and updating their game (which usually results in new bugs being introduced)?

  • This is just a theory, but....

This game is running on base code that's over 10 years old, and was likely never designed to be so radically expanded over the years---that's where the problems come in.

And it's also why sims 5 is far overdue. In terms of product life, this game is an ancient relic, an artifact if you will

  • I just don't see how they're so careless with their own game. I mean, I use mods in my game so obviously my game is destroyed, but I've heard people that don't use any CC whatsoever, people on xbox, it seems that the list of people who's game is working is shorter than the list of people who's isn't.

  • What really annoys me is they rush to fix some minor thing like a blotch on an outfit but then completely ignore for years bugs like the staff at restaurants standing outside and not doing their jobs . If you look at old bug reports some of them have never even been looked at never mind fixed , This latest patch quite clearly showed they have never play tested it at all the speed the mess appeared and how easy it was to see the bugs

  • I LOVE this subject ! I noticed that last year. Nothing more needs to be said really. Lets go offline ! Boycott the updates ....

Not me. I stopped. I've been playing since TS1 and, while there've always been issues, it's nothing like this. I'm taking files in and out of my game every dang day because there've been like 4 updates since the 15th. I'm getting scans on mods that I literally just updated and/or checked for the 3rd time that they are still updated. But another update today so maybe that's the problem. Literally haven't played in at min 2 weeks.

Same here- I can't play at all unless I don't leave my sims' home lot. Or don't click the simology tab. Every lot I try to travel to is broken and gives me an error, then forces me to the world's screen and has an orange triangle for the lots I tried traveling to. This even happens when trying to send teens to school or prom. The simology tab breaks the UI so I can't exit or save. No mods, "game repairs", etc., can help me because I'm on console. The Gallery is completely wrecked, as well. It either doesn't load or I can no longer switch between gallery tabs if I click one of them after it does load. Like, if I'm viewing my library and click my profile tab or the gallery tab, I'm stuck on whichever tab I clicked and can't view the others even if I exit the gallery and open it again. The tabs just don't open. All of these problems persist even after deleting all of my saves and data, starting completely from scratch. This is the biggest broken patch I've ever experienced on any console game 😥

Because we keep buying the DLC! I guess we have short memories...

  • they should at least test all the dlc and all ages before releasing the patch.

Sadly, this latest patch DETROYED (and I mean DESTROYED) my game. It's a shame coding and such (I don't understand that stuff, but I'd like to) isn't that quick and easy...
