Re: Infants are infuriating for gameplay. Please fix.
@anibutterfly8 I gave it a while before I added an infant.
I recreated a family I lost in a game that had to be deleted. So I can directly compare experiences before and after adding the infant life stage.
Brontë is a politician so I got her career level up to Representative, Travers is a self employed commercial fisherman so he can be at home and she could go back to work. The last time I played them I got her career to the top of the tree so she was the senior political figure for all of my Sims.
Their wedding was so bugged they had to elope and their honeymoon lot was invaded by strangers and had to be cancelled...so bless their hearts it didn't start out well. I also built their beautiful home on the old Robles lot and fishing is banned in that part of San Sequoia...so I wish I'd known that for my fisherman. They weren't having the best luck already!
So little Clementine was born (again). Travers had been organised and cooked a week's worth of food so they wouldn't have to cook. It was easy enough to care for her except bottles and nappies were strewn everywhere even though I added Growing Together so have the changing facilities and trash bin. It's hard to spot those nappies on the floor too! Yuck. Brontë didn't get mat leave and was expected at work hours after the 2am birth at home so I hit the PTO option when her work alarm went off (which isn't possible with all careers).
So I aged Clemmie up while Brontë was at home. I could then use the changing table. I noticed that as soon as she cried, Travers gave her a bottle without me telling him to and left it on the floor. Infants, I found need naps every couple of hours so they had to keep putting her down. But she got sad moodlets a lot from not being held.
One thing I feared with infants was a return to the Sims 3 babies all over the floor situation and...I was right. For many interactions they just put her on the floor but I suppose at least a little mat pops up beneath them this time. Still, babies on the floor is a big no-no for me. They even put her on the floor next to the changing table.
Most of the work around taking care of Clemmie was me, live dragging everything to the trash and searching the floor for more trash. It's been widely reported so I hope 🤞 it's fixed. Those bottles are so tiny and hard to spot. I went into build mode and added new bins rather than take the trash out to save them work. I tried getting each parent to sit in her nursery with her, reading a parenting book because I found they needed to be instantly on hand. But they kept walking past the bookcases, leaving the nursery and then walking to another room to put the book down only to return to a small infant Sim, incandescent with rage at them taking so long. My Sims were also reaching through her nursery wall to tuck her into her crib which was a bit, well...disturbing!
The dog ran away from being completely ignored. He did return eventually! Brontë stayed at her career level and hasn't made it to the top. But Clemmie is mostly happy and I'm switching households because a couple of days of it was enough for me.
Oh and just to add, living near the cinema in San Sequoia means you get pop ups for Sims from outside the household watching movies. That wasn't helpful with a screaming infant! There's another bug report to file.
Still, they are cute and I like being able to dress them. I also like the new toys on a positive note! And I do love to design a nursery!
