"Scumbumbo's packing crates"
Isn't that just like normal storage ?You can transfer stuff from your sims inventory to the crate, not from the household inventory, which is the whole point. Things in your sims inventory you can already take with you. What we need is a way to take things from the household inventory. Like my teen's highschool diploma, she should be able to keep it, not have it locked away at her parents place.
- @Naemi_Han No, this particular mod allows you to put furniture/furnishings like beds and couches into the crate. And then the crate into your Sim's inventory.
I see, so only things you can buy again. Not things like the highschool diploma (which doesn't have the option "pack into crate" that furniture now has). I guess it's usefull to save time, but it doesn't solve my issue.
BTW for those trying this mod : you have to place the crate, then click "enable packing" on the crate, then you can click on furniture and "pack into crate". Or else it won't work.
- @Naemi_Han Good to know - I don't have HSY and hadn't tried a diploma. I mainly used it for things like their bed, maybe party or career reward items that the household had spares of, inheriting the bassinet for when they start their own family, etc.

Yeah. I use the heck out of the crates for career rewards. My Sims tend to graduate University, move back in with their parents because they can't afford an apartment until they get a job, and then they get a job with their shiny new degree and get a bunch of career rewards that end up in Mom and Dad's household inventory. I mean. I could move them onto an empty lot and have them get a job, I could have Mom and Dad give them money for a house or apartment, but... you know.
I use both Scumbumbo's Packing Crates and SimRealist's SNB Bank so they can save up for an apartment.
Without the mod, they have the right to buy the item again. Hmf. Then I have to remember what it's called (artist's taboret is one I always forget). Yes, there's an unocked toggle on buildbuy, but I always forget it's there and flail around. Also, it just doesn't feel the same.
What about the Hero of Strangerville and their Motherplant Tendril? That's not a buyable item, and they can't take it with them without the crates!
- @Naemi_Han I realize this an old post, but I’m wondering if the parent couldn’t put it in their inventory and gift the diploma to them.
- @Naemi_Han I realize this an old post, but I wonder if the parent couldn’t gift the diploma to their child. Then they should have it in their inventory.
- @CheyenneBaum I think the diploma is like furniture so you can't put it in a sim inventory, only in the household inventory. So the only way is to add the child-sim back to their parents household and then make the parents leave the household.
- justcherie2 years agoSeasoned Novice@xochiquetzl_xkvn Thanks for mentioning this! I had used this before but I think I started having problems with it because it wasn't updated, so I had removed it. I googled it just now and saw that Basemental had updated the mod. I'm so happy!
This is kind of involved but it will work.
- Move out the sim/s that you DO NOT want to move out.
- Cancel moving once in the map screen so they remain "not in world."
- Move out the sim/s that you DO want to move out.
- Set them up on the new lot.
- Play a neighbor from the original neighborhood.
- As that neighbor, click the original lot and choose "move in family from library."
- Select any family in your library and move them in for free.
- Go to manage worlds and choose to play the newly placed family.
- After loading in that family, immediately return to the manage world's screen.
- Select manage housholds.
- Select the original household.
- Click "Move Household into a lot."
- Choose the original lot and confirm.
- You'll be asked if you'd like to move in with the new family. Click "Move In."
- Confirm that you want to move in again.
- Then, actually move in. (Oi, that's a lot of move in)
- Play the newly merged family.
- Go to the travel menu on your phone.
- Choose split from household again.
- Choose the sim/s from your library.
- Confirm.
- And finally, the original family is back home!
- Goto manage households.from the world management screen.
- Click the heart on any of the families that you DO NOT want to play.
- Collapse from exhaustion because moving day is always exhausting!
*NOTE* Any items in the house inventory that you do not wish to move with the exiting sim should be temporarily placed on the lot so that ONLY the desired objects are taken.
*SECOND NOTE* Any businesses that are owned by the family will go with the newly split sim/s. I don't know how to solve that.
I know this is kind of an old post but I have a solution that works on console or if you don't use mods. Save first.
1) Build a small room that can contain all your stuff. You can use there move objects cheat to cram everything into one tile. You can delete unused walls.
2) Save the room to your gallery. Take note of the cost to place and delete the room on the old lot. You obviously won't get the full cost back but some things like birth certificates (that are irreplaceable otherwise) are free to place and that might offset some of the cost of step 3.
3) Move out to the new lot taking enough money to purchase your room of stuff on top of whatever you need or fits your story. Then just place the room you saved on the new lot. All upgrades etc should stay and you can move whole gardens of evolved plants this way.
