You can actually send your sims off to a Naturopath if they have an ailment or are imbalanced, so you don't need anyone with the apothecary skill in your household.

"Visit Naturopath" only shows up when your sim has an ailment or is imbalanced.

Have your sim who has the ailment select themselves, then select "Visit Naturopath". They leave the lot for about 2-hours and it costs 1500 simoleons.

They come back with the ailment cured, plus a random apothecary elixir/cure in their inventory :)
