I genuinely believe spiral staircases are the single most important building feature still missing from The Sims 4.
Builders have been asking for them for years, and the reason is simple: they solve a major limitation in Build Mode.
Right now, every staircase requires a large footprint. Even the smallest stair designs take up a lot of tiles, which makes certain builds almost impossible to recreate accurately. Spiral stairs would finally allow for compact vertical movement in builds where space matters.
Think about how many builds would immediately become easier or more realistic:
- Towers
- Castles
- Lighthouses
- Victorian turrets
- Tiny homes
- Treehouses
- Loft apartments
- Narrow townhouses
Right now, builders have to fake spiral stairs using switchbacks or curved stairs, which can take 6–12 tiles of space just to move up one floor. A spiral staircase could easily fit within a 2×2 footprint, which would completely change how compact builds work.
We already have:
- Ladders
- Adjustable stair widths
- Platforms
- Curved walls
- Advanced stair customization
Spiral staircases feel like the last major vertical building tool missing from the game.
And the best part is they don’t even need dozens of versions. Just a few styles would unlock huge creative possibilities:
- Classic wrought iron spiral
- Wooden traditional spiral
- Modern minimalist spiral
The Sims building community is one of the most creative parts of the entire player base. People spend hundreds or thousands of hours designing homes, castles, fantasy worlds, and real-life architectural recreations. Spiral staircases would instantly expand what we can create.
If this feature were added, it would easily become one of the most celebrated Build Mode updates.
If you’re a builder who wants spiral staircases too, upvote or share so the devs might see it.
I love spiral stairs, and want them bad! I'd also love curved stairs for curved walls; for the castle tower stairwell effect.
