The Sims Needs to Do Better with Black Cultural Representation

I’m excited for The Sims 4: Hobbies expansion and have already pre-ordered it. But once again, EA continues to overlook an entire demographic when it comes to cultural representation in the game.

Time and time again, we see content inspired by North American (predominantly white), English, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Indian cultures. But where is the meaningful inclusion of African and Black American culture? Where is a world inspired by the diverse regions of Africa, with music, food, and traditions? Where is a pack that properly highlights Black American culture—the very culture that has shaped and influenced global entertainment, fashion, and language for decades?

And before anyone mentions that one tiny kit pack—let’s be honest, it was bare minimum effort. Meanwhile, we’ve received multiple packs focusing on animals, a full LGBTQ+ CAS update, and even a knitting pack before anything that truly celebrates Black culture. That’s unacceptable.

It’s frustrating to see the culture that has influenced so much of the world continuously sidelined. Black culture is American culture, and its impact is undeniable. It deserves to be represented with the same depth, respect, and effort that has been given to other cultures in The Sims 4. EA, it’s time to do better.

Totally agree Black culture deserves more than a token gesture. Even Tele latino pro has more variety in cultural content than what EA’s offering right now.

  • With the Sims you have the describe what you want as culture like with black American I want the senegalese twists, I want barrettes for the toddlers and and kids we only have one hair style with ballies and barrettes. Then they give us the edges thinking that's going to be black and texture no. I do want an African world but what kind of pack would it be Safari, Arts and Music?
