I agree and would love the option to travel to new destinations using a more realistic mechanic than just hitting "M" on my keyboard. Some have argued that having Sims load into an "in-between" lot, such as an Airport or Sea Port, just adds more loading screens, but I argue it wouldn't as the Travel Port could replace "Manage Worlds" screen:
AIRPORT Community Lot
- Home Lot > Computer/Phone > Travel to Airport
- (load screen)
- Airport > Choose Destination (Functional Gameplay)
- (load screen)
- Destination
Take a VACATION (current system)
- Home Lot > Computer/Phone > Take a vacation
- (load screen)
- Manage Worlds
- (load screen)
- Destination
REAL LIFE
- Home
- (drive)
- Airport
- (fly)
- Destination
I could see a Tourism system split up into a set of Getaway Expansions:
- Fly Away Getaway
- Sail Away Getaway (Cruise Ship)
- Railway Getaway
- Subway Getaway
Each of these EPs would have a Travel Port hidden lot:
- Airport
- Sea Port
- Train Station
- Subway Station
Working within the constraints of how EP-Worlds are typically packaged, EP-Worlds tend to consist of 3 neighborhoods each containing 4 lots. I imagine that Travel EP-Worlds would detach these neighborhoods into three separate Destination Worlds to explore, each World equaling a single large Neighborhood of 4 or 5 Lots. Hopefully each of these Destination Worlds would offer unique cultural gameplay to set them apart.
But what if Players don't want to load into a Travel Port to visit these new Maps? I offer a few solutions to unlock these Destination Worlds on the Manage Worlds screen by either completing an Aspiration (Frequent Flyer) or earning enough Culture Skill, or owning a Private Plane or Sailboat, for instance.
Personally, I would love to experience the gameplay of travel in The Sims 4, complete with a trip to the Airport or Train Station and enjoy their respective game tasks. I would like to take in the view of the open ocean as my Sims wander the decks of a Cruise Ship. I would like for my Sims to collect Travel Magnets or new Post Cards or other souvenirs. I would like the opportunity to add new adventures to my game with new ways to spend Simoleons through travel and tourism.
