The room lights up because it’s not a complete room, if that makes sense, because there is a wall missing. Once the space goes completely dark, that means it’s completely enclosed in walls. If it’s bright that means a wall is missing and sunlight can get in because it is not a complete room. You aren’t doing anything wrong.
