Aliens stole my parents Scenario

I started this Aliens Stole my Parents Scenario and starting out the kids are late for school. So, I sent them off to school. Next thing I know they are home again but the at school symbol is still over their faces. I cannot have them do homework or anything so it's unplayable. Anyone else having this issue. I exited and ran the "repair game" option and it didn't fix the issue.
