Am I confused about Charity Fundraisers? Nobody gives any money

I'm hosting a charity benefit party right now though, and can't seem to ask people for money. Is it even an option? Or are you supposed to wait until they randomly walk up to you and give you money. I can't seem to get anybody to raise a toast either, and it's an event goal but not in any of the social menus :/
