Basement camera won't zoom in

this is the view that I am getting in my basements. I have no idea why and I am unable to fix it. I have the camera.ini fixed but that is only for screenshots, I also tried lowering the foundation, removing the ceiling, nothing has worked. I want to fix the problem so I don't have to use the camera.ini. I have noticed that it happens no matter where I am, if its a basement, then I can't zoom in and see my player. Does anyone know a fix for this or what could be causing it? Thanks in advance.

  • miscs0ul  I haven't had any problems that I've noticed with zooming in, in my basements or elsewhere.  I can get as close as I want from most angles but that is on me and how I built out the basement.  The only camera issues in basements are with taller objects that don't fade out as the camera gets close and wall hung things like mirrors and one or two other objects that have options on them.  It's always been that way for me so nothing new.

However, since you've said you have "fixed" the camera.ini file, that might be your issue.  Change a setting for one thing and then you get surprised when other things get changed that you didn't anticipate.  Easy to do and I've been there, done that.  So, my first suggestion is to move the file and run a repair, so a new one gets generated.  Just use the one that the game generates without changing anything.  If you are able to zoom in, in your basements, then you'll know if that is the cause of your issue.  If it is, then you'll have to make a choice of whether to continue to use the modified settings file or the default one or if you just swap them in and out when you want to make certain screenshots.

    Hope this helps.

  • I’m also having this issue can’t figure out why and my ini file is default. Camera is stuck at ceiling height in basement

I'm experiencing the same issue, for example with the default lounge that is in the new EP world. I can't move downstairs into the basement with the camera, it is stuck on ground level. My camera ini file is default too, and I had that issue on mac and on PC since the businesses and hobbies patch. But I'll do some more testing tomorrow morning without mods and if that happens only in this new world or also elsewhere, and report back.

    Very interesting:

After more testing without mods and cleared thumbnailcache as always, I can confirm that this issue only exists for me in the new Businesses and Hobbies EP world! (Edit: I did not test all worlds, just picked some at random)
I can without issues enter the basements of other words, but not in the new one, the camera stops at ground level and doesn't let me go into the basement. I have tested in that preset lounge lot in that world, but also when using the gallery to add new builds i still have the same issue.
Not sure if that is connected too, but I also experience a lag when panning the camera around that new neighbourhood, as if some textures load too long (could be something else than textures) and impact the main thread. I'm on a beefy computer and have max graphics on, and my fps only goes down to 60-70 when it starts stuttering. Usually when my game lags it is because fps is down at 20, but this one is stuttering when panning the camera around even though the fps is still high enough for a fluent experience. Not sure if that is related, but again only seems to happen in the new world.

I'm using Sims 3 camera in build and in live mode. No mods, no changed camera ini and i have done a game repair before that too. I had the same basement issue on PC and Mac.

  • I did some testing.  What I found is that the camera will not drop down lower than the top of the basement wall for all venues that I tested except for residential.  Residential venue lots work just like they do in all other worlds in both build and live modes and the camera will drop down inside the basement area.  I did not test all venues, only those present in Nordhaven.  I tested by placing a basement under each venue type except the lounge which already has one.  I also tested various venues in two other worlds and those worked just like they always have with the camera dropping in down into the basements as one would expect.  So, something is different about Nordhaven.  While not a bug in the classic sense since it doesn't break game play, it shouldn't be happening and is probably something that wasn't intended by the designers.

    Hope this helps.
