Beta Tests

Plumbella made a really great point in her video today - having testers (aka beta tests) before launch would prevent the a lot of the bugs we see in new free content or new packs. It seems we keep getting things that are not working, and then we have to wait for yet ANOTHER patch to fix it. So maybe do beta tests. A lot of gaming companies do it and it helps reveal the issues with consoles and PC BEFORE release. EA has game changers... get them to beta test. If it pushes release, so be it. At least the product that gets out will be polished. I think simmers prefers quality over quantity...

    EA do playtesting https://www.ea.com/playtesting

How do we know if they do or don't have people testing the new content? As per the FAQ - Per our Playtest Agreement signed before every test, all details regarding the session are strictly confidential. Source: https://www.ea.com/playtesting/faq/participating-in-a-session

Edit - found this over on the officials from Frost so yeah, they do it for TS4  https://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/971082/playtesting-with-the-sims

  • @ValFreya13  It's a good point. I don't know who this person is you mentioned and I think EA as any game producer do test their games; but looking at the issues in the bug forum it appearantly is not enough considering the amount of combinations of features there is. Some of the bugs are also very easy to come by, so testing more, or differently is a good request.

@Bluebellflora These playtests are at a specific location and the people doing it are all using the same devices. That is not a very accurate or thorough playtest and is something EA can do on it's own. Not everyone has a computer like the one at an EA lab and that environment is way too controlled. The lab tests clearly are not working.

@DonroaAkashuLol she is a youtuber. Anyway, I feel like the issues definitely become evident once released, so in that sense, they should considered soft releases to certain individuals for beta tests. I understand they want to keep it things hush hush, but this is the third patch/bug fix that has really broken the game for many people and caused bugs that are worse then some of the ones they fixed. But maybe that is asking too much lol

@ValFreya13 Yes, I gathered as much when I googled her, but thanks.

I agree that EA needs to analyze and develop whatever method they are using for quality analysis; since the current practice leads to me feeling that I as player, user, customer, am the tester of the product I pay full price for.
