So that post describes my problem with the Fear of Horses perfectly but I don't really see a solution mentioned so I assume that means I just have to wait on a patch eventually fixing it.

the discovery quest thing was changed. They do work now but there's a known issue for some of them being blank. Please use this thread: Discovery Quests: Certain quests have blank text | EA Forums - 11876530
