"Boyfriend/Girlfriend" objective doesn't activate when promised

So I had my teen sim become a couple with this other teen sim and they became boyfriend and girlfriend and I had them exchange promise rings. However, after doing that, in the romance section, the option "ask if single" showed up. Did giving them promise rings end their boyfriend-girlfriend relationship somehow? Is this a glitch or am I missing something? I had the promise rings removed and then I had to make them boyfriend and girlfriend again?

I saw some questions about this but no real answers. I saw the Fixed in Patch 1.93.129/1.66, but that did not work.
