@GLJGunner Hi! I thought I would just add a couple things to @ValFreya13 's suggestions. I agree that it would help to just spend some time playing around with build mode in a test save before trying to build your sims' forever homes.

If you're on PC or Mac, everything can be done by using your mouse. However, I find using the keyboard is sometimes easier for rotating things, especially stairs. Once you have a staircase (or object or room) selected and you can move it around freely with your mouse, use the keyboard and press the , < OR . > keys to rotate.
