my sims make cakes then i put them in the fridge so they don't spoil. When I want to remove the cakes or get my sims to eat them i can't also I can not drag them out or anything. I have bought a new fridge, resting the fridge and it is the same every time. I don't know if it is a console problem or not.
I play on PC but I've had that happen if the cake was made by a visitor to the lot. I saw that a lot after Eco Living came out as it was one of the things that sims did for one of the NAPs. Once the cake got put in the fridge, I couldn't grab the whole cake to drag it to a table, counter, etc. But what I found that I could do was have sims grab a slice by selecting that cake in the fridge using the open option. So do that 8 times and the cake gets eaten. Once all the slices are gone, then you can have a sim clean out the fridge to get rid of the empty dish. So you might want to see if that will work for you.
