Ok, thanks for the link, too. I read the related ones.
Funny, I actually do save my important files in another folder and/or external HD nearly everyday before I start to play for the day, I just forgot I could go to that if I messed the game up. My tray file is one of the three main files I save no matter what, but I am intimidated to ever have to go in there and try to match up (by date created) any of my Sims or Lots individually.
But thanks also for the reminder of "not saving" if it suddenly goes upside down. I forgot that was an option. cheers.
I'm happy I could help. We try a lot of weird things too.
I never had issues with just replacing the Tray folder, never had to do anything with matching up dates.

By "Matching up dates", I mean that I read that in order to (for example) to find just one or a few particular Sims I have created that may have somehow got deleted (it can happen by accident or by Sim culling,) that you can find the one in particular by matching the date you created them with the dates listed in the Tray folder if you select "List by date" to find it.
But I'm not sure I ever want to have to deal with doing that. I do wish there was a way to save each Sim character or family by name rather than by number, but, at least we can save the entire Tray folder somewhere.
So, Thanks again. MH
