can I split stacks of items in sims 4

So I have stacks of items in my inventory, and I want to move part of those stack to either another sim, or the fridge/chest. Take potatoes for instance. If I have 40 of them and want to move half to a second sims so we can both use them to fish, I would have to open the stack and move them one at a time. I can move whole stack, and I can open the stacks to move them one at a time, but not partial stacks.

I searched online, and found a post that said I CAN move partial stacks, and it said the following.

"Actually you can move a number of items at one time. Hold down shift when you click on the triangle and drag it to the Sim you want to have the item.  Then a window will appear that looks like the one to give a nooboo it's name. Just say the number of the item you want them to have and voila!"

all the following posts said thanks, and indicated it worked great. That is until the very last post which no one ever replied to.

I've talked to Origin tech support via the chat feature resulting in repairing the game, followed by reinstalling the game. No mods are currently installed, I am playing with a new save, and there has been no fix.

If I mouse over the triangle it refers to, I get a finger icon to use the click action, "open stack." Holding shift, ctrl, or alt does not change it to the grab hand. Clicking the triangle and dragging has zero effect, even when using any of those keys. So again I am left with moving things one at a time, or whole stacks.

The chat operator, and the support technicians Yogesh spoke to, seamed to think I was supposed to be able to do this.

If there was a patch that changed/disabled this ability, please let me know.

  • AFAIR, it's not possible in Sims 4, only in Sims 3 so maybe that person was mixing up the game ?
