can I split stacks of items in sims 4

So I have stacks of items in my inventory, and I want to move part of those stack to either another sim, or the fridge/chest. Take potatoes for instance. If I have 40 of them and want to move half to a second sims so we can both use them to fish, I would have to open the stack and move them one at a time. I can move whole stack, and I can open the stacks to move them one at a time, but not partial stacks.

I searched online, and found a post that said I CAN move partial stacks, and it said the following.

"Actually you can move a number of items at one time. Hold down shift when you click on the triangle and drag it to the Sim you want to have the item.  Then a window will appear that looks like the one to give a nooboo it's name. Just say the number of the item you want them to have and voila!"

all the following posts said thanks, and indicated it worked great. That is until the very last post which no one ever replied to.

I've talked to Origin tech support via the chat feature resulting in repairing the game, followed by reinstalling the game. No mods are currently installed, I am playing with a new save, and there has been no fix.

If I mouse over the triangle it refers to, I get a finger icon to use the click action, "open stack." Holding shift, ctrl, or alt does not change it to the grab hand. Clicking the triangle and dragging has zero effect, even when using any of those keys. So again I am left with moving things one at a time, or whole stacks.

The chat operator, and the support technicians Yogesh spoke to, seamed to think I was supposed to be able to do this.

If there was a patch that changed/disabled this ability, please let me know.

  • AFAIR, it's not possible in Sims 4, only in Sims 3 so maybe that person was mixing up the game ?

@SheriGR, your experiences are similar to some of mine. 🤨  Sometimes things will work, but other times they are stuck! 😞 Also, most of the time I cannot move a stack, but I swear that I was able to do that a few times (but I never remembered how it happened and I assumed that that was a glitch, and not the other way around.)  😳😃  Moving a stack usually doesn't work so I just usually don't bother trying. I wish it was more consistent and more clear! ☹️

But thank you for clarifying that in certain instances it will work (I though I had imagined those instances when it happened to me!) 😃:eahigh_file:

@PugLove888 Yup, I have it down to a science. I combine and troubleshoot the methods I mentioned and I can tackle the 'stuck stack' issues when they come up.  The worse incident was when I had to move hundreds of 'dragon fruits' one at a time to clear out the personal inventories for the sims in one of my households after they got a household bill of over $150,000. I about fell off my chair. So I went after inventory in case that was being 'taxed' heavily. The kicker is that after I cleared out all of that personal inventory (main issue was a LOT of valuable garden produce- including dealing with some 'stuck' things in those stacks, which of course get stuck at the top of the stack to make it an ultra pain in the butt!) The household had over $2,000,000 after cashing in all that produce. Guess that explained the bill. Gee, what else are they gonna spend all that money on?! But... it turned out that the later bills were not high. So apparently you get charged a lot in bills to have huge inventory, but not for having mega cash?! Go figure. Only in the upside-down reality of The Sims. Bahahaha... 😃 😉

@SheriGR, that is some bill!  Glad your Sims were able to pay it off and reduce future bills at the same time!  I guess the Sims don't have an income tax, but they do have a steep property tax! 😮😃  Crummy how if the stuck item is at the top of the stack, how it makes the entire stack stuck! 😠 (That sounded like a tongue twister! 😃:eahigh_file: )

  • @Sierrebrarc If you click and drag the stack onto the ground it will automatically place one down and then you can continue to hit the left click mouse button to place down how many you want to keep, then click the inventory sell icon to sell the rest of the stack. Then you just have to drag what is left on the ground back into your inventory. You can do this while the game is paused to make it easier.
  • @SheriGR if you click on the number on the stack of objects your looking at it will open up another window with the single items in that stack allowing you to pull out 1 item at a time
