Cannot Turn off Certain Content

@sorryimkatlynn I can see you've got Use Fresh Ingredients checked on the fridge there. If you uncheck it each time you open the fridge then that will let you cook the other recipes. I have to remember that each time I cook. It's quicker sometimes just to click on the stove. It behaves in a similar way to the Simple Living lot trait. There's still some recipes that you can't cook without the special ingredients though, like the Obsidian recipes for example and bug recipes so they will be greyed out.

On the Cottage Living events on the calendar, you can't change that unfortunately. All events from all packs remain on the calendar. They can't be removed you can only ignore them. Feedback has been given by players asking to be able to delete them in the future.

Edit: crossed out the first part of my answer as it appears that may be a potential Home Chef Hustle bug in my game on Xbox. I think it's the second part of the answer that applies to your issue unless we both have a fridge bug with Use Fresh Ingredients.

Your second screenshot shows that you can make Eggs and Toast, Chocolate Cake, and White Cake, even though you don't have the ingredients for any of them, so Simple Living is clearly turned off. 

You can't make Obsidian Eggs and Toast or Popcorn Crickets because they have REQUIRED ingredients that you are missing. That has nothing to do with Simple Living. Simple Living only affects the OPTIONAL ingredients. 

Except for a weekly notification, the Finchwick Fair won't have any effect on you in Forgotten Hollow.
