City Living or Get Famous?

What pack should I get, City Living or Get Famous?

Iโ€™m also considering Dream Home Decorator (for the Build/Buy items) and Get Together (various reasons), but mostly the two in the title.

City Living for the apartments (I know other packs have apartments too), singing skill, lot traits, and gaming console.

Get Famous for the Fame, acting career, CAS items, and famous people.

Gameplay is the most important thing to me, but I do really like the Build/Buy in Dream Home Decorator.

   Anyone have any input?

  • I actually just bought get famous 2 days ago (alongside seasons and cottage living), I haven't stopped playing it! I've had City Living since it released, and I can remember vividly that I was no where near enjoying it as much as I'm currently enjoying get famous.

You can meet celebs, sign peoples autographs when you rank up in the world, buy celebrity houses, have the paparazzi follow you and take photos and people just swarm you (you can wear a disguise to hide and stop paparazzi and fans following/swarming you) and more.

    I'd say get famous. ๐Ÿ™‚

@HorseObsessed Wow, sounds like a lot of fun! I was leaning towards that one, but you made me sure. Also, I did see your post about getting those packs yesterday. How do you like Cottage Living?
  • Cottage living is also pretty fun! I love the new lot challenges and traits. As well as the village is a really cute place and the town fairs are really fun. I showcased my chicken and won first place (I bribed the mayor tho... haha!).

The lot challenge I'm currently doing is simple living, where you only survive on the stuff you produce and the goods you buy from the local fresh goods market. It's way cheaper as well to cook! Saves money!

And the homes are so well decorated, they feel so cosy!

@Fluffy4880 , I actually prefer City Living.  I play with it much more than I do Get Famous, but everyone is different! I have had both since they were released, and despite me having played City Living for much longer (since it was released years before Get Famous was), I still play with it the more and it is one of my favorite packs!  I really love the festivals and it is a great way for your Sims to meet new people, learn new recipes, get new items, or try new things. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

The Club system in Get Together is pretty cool and customizable, and pretty powerful! ๐Ÿ˜„ Get Together also has the most lots of all the packs and is a must-have for builders due to all the architecture items!  Dream Home decorator is a lot of fun, but really only adds gameplay to the Sims you put in that career, so it is a bit more limiting.  But on the plus side is that you can redecorate your neighbors ugly houses! ๐Ÿ˜…

Which packs do you already have? ๐Ÿค”

Why not both, especially if there's a sale on? Venessa and Miko are both sweethearts, too. ๐Ÿ™Œ

@darkaudit , I don't' know if this is the case for the OP, but often when a person asks which pack get out of the few they are contemplating, it is often because they can't afford to get both or all of the packs at this time and will have to wait to get the other pack or other packs later. Other times it is because parents will only allow them to get one pack at a time. (There might also be another reason that we haven't thought about.). ๐Ÿ˜‰

In cases like these, other people can help them make a better choice. However, I don't know how much @HorseObsessed and myself have helped @Fluffy4880  since we both preferred the opposite pack! ๐Ÿ˜…  Still, they can always look at both replies and consider them, and have a little bit more information on both of them.  ๐Ÿ˜Š

I was trying to avoid listing all of them, since I donโ€™t really knowโ€ฆ but here goes ๐Ÿ˜…
Expansions: Get to Work, Cats and Dogs, Discover University, Eco Lifestyleโ€ฆ and Iโ€™m certain Iโ€™m missing one.
Game Packs: Realm of Magic, Journey to Batuu
Stuff Packs: Spooky Stuff, Vintage Glamour
As I said, Iโ€™m not sure if thatโ€™s everything I have, I would have to check.
Iโ€™m definitely leaning more towards Get Famous (I still havenโ€™t bought any of the packs), but I have been wanting the city for a while, Iโ€™m getting tired of Evergreen Harbor and Brindleton Bayโ€ฆ but on the other hand, Iโ€™ve been wanting celebrities for a while, and I think it will make for more fun gameplay. And yeah, Iโ€™m not looking to get more than one pack.

City Living has the diverse food stalls like the Indian/Moroccan/Chinese/Japanese/Vietnamese/etc food stalls so you can learn more recipes. Not sure if having any other pack will open that up.  Snowy Escape has some Japanese food too, but I don't know if it overlaps with the City Living Ones. Like Eco, it has apartments mostly, so you can't edit the outside of the apartments in build mode.

Get Famous has some opulent looking times for building, but I think it's mainly the fame and actor related career stuff if you want to experience the job.

    Game play, probably get famous?

    City Living for more cultures.

@PugLove888 which is why I had the "if there's a sale on" caveat.

But I guess if I'm forced to choose one or the other to get first, I'd probably go with City Living for the festivals, vendors, and a more interesting set of townies.

@darkaudit , I did see that you mentioned the sale, but sometimes even when things are on sale, they aren't on enough of a sale for the person to get both packs.  That is why I didn't mention it, though waiting to get packs on sale is a good strategy, especially if you have several packs you want but don't have yet. They do often have sales, so thanks for mentioning that! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

@stormsai , I agree with you about the interesting characters that come with City Living!  I also love festivals! The food festival is my favorite! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ I also like the Flea Market to find collectables like some of the rarer crystals and metals or the MySims statues, along with other items.

And I recommend for players who don't use money cheats and like to start out with very little money to go to the Humor and Hijinks festival choose a side, and spam either jokes or mischief depending on which side you choose, so that your side wins,  and you get a bunch of items that a starter Sim can sell for some nice cash!  The Mischief side is especially profitable because if you are on that side and you win, the voodoo doll is expensive, and you can sell it along with all the fireworks!  But even if you pick the Humor side, you get a microphone that is worth several hundred Simoleons, even if it doesn't sell for as much as the voodoo doll! This helps if you are doing a Rags to Riches type challenge! ๐Ÿ˜‰

@Fluffy4880, thanks for the list!  You seem to have diverse packs! (Vintage Glamour is one of my favorite Stuff Packs!๐Ÿ’—)   If you are really into celebrities or acting then you will probably love Get Famous.  I am not as much into celebrities as I am culture, so I really prefer City Living.  Either "world" or "town" that comes with these 2 packs have a different feel from Brindleton Bay and Evergreen Harbor (even the apartments have a different feel, in my opinion) .  The world/town in Get Famous is smaller than the one in City Living, but there are several actual houses, while the world/town in City Living has one house and all the rest are apartments. (Just beware that one of the houses with Get Famous is missing some toilets upstairs! ๐Ÿ˜… )

Get Famous has 3 styles of furniture items... a glamourous one, a trendy "club" style one, and Mid-Century Modern.  City Living has styles from several cultures from around the world , and even more when it comes to food!

Do you have any friends or relatives who have either pack?  They would better know what you like and don't like, and perhaps could be a good source of information on both packs !  Or perhaps you could watch some Let's Plays from some Game Changers or other YouTubers...I know James Turner does a Rags to Riches Let's Play of each Expansion and Game pack!  He does them in episodes so there is a lot of material you can view to help make up your mind, if you still can't decide! That way you can see which gameplay features appeal to you more! ๐Ÿ˜‰

And whatever you decide, please tell us ! ๐Ÿ˜‡
