Day of the Day troubles

I have no idea if this is a bug, intended, or if I'm the one doing something wrong.

I'm having a lot of trouble collecting the Day of the Dead skulls. I have sims give offerings on graves and I see the pop up saying that someone is coming over.

Even if I pause the game to look around the neighborhood to look for the celebrant as fast as possible, I have trouble interacting with them. Sometimes I manage to find them but even after clicking on them to speak to them, they walk away before my sim has even reached them. In cases where they do stay long enough for my sims to interact with them, I can manage one or two talk topics before they say goodbye and walk away, losing the designation of "celebrant" to become standard NPCs.I only managed to get a single skull out of sheer luck because one time, the NPC was actually already friends with one of my sims, so I just outright asked a skull as my first interaction before they decided to leave.

    @taiga_ameca, 🤨😮 do you play on a PC/Mac or on a console like Xbox/PS4?

The Day of the Dead was a one-time in-game event a couple of years ago.  I don't understand how you were able to even see any celebrants, let alone that you got a sugar skull from one who was a friend of yours!!!  There has been no news that they were re-activating this event, so I am very confused.🤔  Do you have some kind of Mod that allows this? 🤔  The only way now that you should be able to get the sugar skulls is through cheats, but that wouldn't cause the DoD celebrants to appear! 🤨

  • I play on PC and I do not have any mods or CC. If I recall correctly, I've been seeing the option to add offerings on graves ever since Seasons, so I assumed that like the egg hunt, it was permanently added in. I could be mistaken about the exact time I saw the option though, it has been a while. Never thought much of it.

@taiga_ameca, thanks for responding to my questions!  It's been awhile since I've done anything with the sugar skulls in my game, and the last time I did it was with the cheats! 😳  I also haven't played a Save Game that had a ghost in a while (it might have been before Seasons 🤨 ), so I will need to go back and see what happens in my game.  I will also ask around and see if anyone else has seen this. I do remember some sort of honoring or offering on the graves even after the DoD event ended, but I haven't seen any celebrators walking around like they did during the event itself. 🤔  That is what is so puzzling to me! 🤔 I'll also see if anyone else has seen this lately.  I don't know when I'll be able to finish doing all this, but I will try to get back to you as soon as possible.😉

P.S.  Keep in mind we are scheduled to have an update/patch sometime on April 16th, (which is today in the U.S.), so I don't know if any of this will be affected or not! 🤨

@taiga_ameca, I talked to another person who helps here and they said that in order for the Day of the Dead celebrant to be willing to give you a sugar skull, you have to be near or at Friendship level for them to feel comfortable enough to give you one! That would explain why the only one you got so far was a Sims whom you  were already friends with. 😉  (I was sick during the Day of the Dead Event when this challenge was actually current, and so I never got to patriciate in it.  I only got the skull collection and display case through cheats.)  If you try to ask for a sugar skull too soon, they wont give you one. And to make it easier to find the DoD celebrant, just pause your game after you get a message that a celebrant is in your neighborhood, so you can look around it and find them!  Once you do find them, queue up a several greetings or interactions just in case the actions time out while your Sim is trying to walk to them.  🙂

For a long time other people would say that using cheats was the only way to complete the collection if you didn't participate in the DoD event.☹️  However, at some time since I last played a house with a grave on the lot, they added the ability to do the challenge! :eahigh_file:  I'm glad they did this! 🥳  But I don't remember them ever mentioning this in the patch notes, so I don't know when it became available! 🤨  Sorry that my information was a bit out of date. 😳  But thank you for asking this question, else I would never know they had made the challenge available again! 😇

    Happy Simming! 🥳

  • Hmm, that is what I'm trying to do and yet the celebrant always decides to leave before I can make any progress. Starting to think something might be broken on my end then. My Legacy save file has been acting up a lot lately. Thank you for the info.

    And no problem. 🙂

@taiga_ameca, since it is a Legacy save file, that probably means that you have been playing on it for a while... well, files that you've played a long time on tend to get a bit buggy as time goes on.  ☹️  That could be the prolem. 🤔  Does it happen to all your Sims in that file, or just one of them?  You can also try it in a new save file, but you have to have a grave to test it out.  Please update me on what happens! 🤞

  • Even back when the "Day of the Dead" scenario was going on, getting them to actually give you the Sugar Skull was a hassle since you pretty much had to get them all the way up to "Good Friend" before they'd even have a chance to give you a Sugar Skull.

The same thing applies even now; it's easier to befriend the "Day of the Dead" celebrant now with things like Kindness Ambassador, Incredibly Friendly, and other traits, but you'll still run into the original issue of having to befriend the celebrant to a high degree before they'll relinquish a Sugar Skull to you.

As far as getting the Celebrant to stick around long enough:

    - Try to have them show up in a neighborhood that's decently populated, where they'll show up, have a chat with another Sim or two, before they attempt to leave.

    - Avoid having them show up during storms, such as blizzards or thunderstorms. (Seasons)

    - If you have to, move the tombstone to a lot in a more populated area. (I found Brindleton Bay works well enough.)

Sometimes the Celebrant will pass through the neighborhood more than once as well, so keep an eye out even after they leave; sometimes you'll get lucky.
