Doppleganger Sim
Hi all, So one of my Sims was out in Uptown, San Myshuno which is where she lives with her family. Then all of a sudden there was a Sim nearby leading a protest, but it was the exact same Sim. The...
@caitobr7 Have you ever saved this sim to your library - alone or within a group, then placed the sim in some other world in your game-save (or visa-versa)? If you look "Manage Households" > "My Households" and "Other Households" do you see the sim also in any of those households? I'm assuming you never made a twin or clone of your sim? Also, do you have Mods or CC in your game?
Hi,
I just spotted the same household in the "other households" tab but it says they're not in world.
I don't have any CC or mods and I didn't make a clone of them.
Quite strange, it is a household I created so I don't know why it would be in other households.
I’m guessing you saved the sim to your account before moving them into a lot. You might do that, for example, if you want to upload a copy of the household to the gallery to share with other players or if you’re not ready to make them a playable character yet. So a copy of the naive character exists in your inventory. (As a related aside, a household created by another player that you add to your account from the gallery will be placed in the same inventory.)
Your game spawns a number of NPC Sims to populate your game but which don’t live in any of the lots. These are labeled as ‘other households’ but ‘not in this world’ (i.e. you can’t locate them from the world map). In this case your game sampled from your inventory and placed a copy of that initial save into the game as an NPC => you have a Doppelgänger!
Hope that makes sense, theoretically speaking. And, if so, does it line up with your case?
FWIW: You can remove them from ‘other households’ if you don’t want them in your game. Because I really enjoy random variation, I would probably leave them in my game as an interesting character to do something fun with. Like, make them my Sim’s new BFF...or, more likely (knowing me), their arch nemesis.
🙃
@caitobr7 I've seen something like this in my game as well. I created a household (1 Sim + 1 cat) and moved them into an empty house so my Sim could have them as NPC neighbors. Shortly afterwards I saw two copies of the same neighbor at a park in Brindleton Bay! When I looked them up in Manage Households there was one copy in the house where I placed her and another copy that was homeless (i.e. "not in the world"). I'm certain that I did not place this household twice so my only guess is that this was just a small glitch that occurred as I was placing the household. Rather than delete the duplicate Sim I just made some minor changes to her in CAS and kept both Sims in my game. I'm sure I've seen some older threads with this same issue, I'll see if I can locate any of them.
Edit: OK here is one of them:
@suzushka Lol, "doppelganger" was the same word I used when this same thing happened in my game a few months back xD
@RandomBuzziness I wish this would be listed as a bug then. I don't play most of my Sims in such a way that I would want a random clone of them appearing.☹️
