[DU] Random Scholarship Pop-Up

Okay I get it ... applying for a scholarship for university is a smart thing to do. Discover University is a great addition to the series but please can we stop the annoying reminders? My current household is an adult with a degree and her two teen sons who are just beginning high school. Every few (Sim) days I get a full screen "Knowing your scholarships" pop-up. It is disruptive and very annoying.

  • @EuphorialQueen That would definitely get on my nerves - plus I hate pop-ups. Did this begin happening recently? What are you doing when the pop-up happens?

I ask because the only household I've played for any length of time since DU came out is one with two students that graduated, and two adult sims who went part time but are not this semester, a child, and a couple more adults not attending college. The only time I've seen that university scholarship in my game that I remember is when it was appropriate - as in while looking into scholarships, researching schools on the computer (and maybe through the mailbox?) or something of this nature.

This difference causes me to be curious. The major difference I notice in the description of your household is the teens (I have not played a teen since DU came out). Is it possible that teenagers trigger these frequent pop-ups? 🤔

    Hi @SheriGR
Thank you for sharing your experience.
In this instance the teens were at school and Mom was practicing violin.
There was nothing obvious that triggered this pop-up.
I have another save with one adult and two grade school children. I am going to keep a closer eye out to track what could be a possible trigger.

    Edit to add: 27Dec2019
Teens may indeed be the trigger but this is still annoying.
I was playing a new save with several YA and older Sims in the household and was not getting this notice.
Imagine trying to play a teenager on their own and this keeps popping up.

I have seen this too and agree that it's probably the teens that cause the popup.  Mine has been inconsistent as in it hasn't happened in every household with a teen and it always seems to occur when someone in the household gets the mail in my game.  But it does seem to stop once you've applied to university or aged up as best as I can tell assuming you don't have any more teens in the household.  I think it starts within a few days (after you get the wall notice that the birthday is coming soon) before a teen ages up since a teen can't apply to university until then.

@EuphorialQueen @SheriGR I play rotationally with more than 100 different households and this pop-up shows up randomly with EVERY household I play - unless there are enrolled university students in my current household. I've gotten this with the Chief-of-Police and his wife (both elders), a household full of adult aliens, a family with two toddlers, Victor and Lily Feng, Nalani Mahi'ai the mermaid, global superstar actress Venessa Jeong, an old guy living in a trailer with his dog ... the list just goes on and on.

I agree that this is very distracting, especially since Discover University is completely unfit to be played with more than one household at any given time as the terms progress for all enrolled sims, including inactive and NPC sims! This makes this pop-up even more in-your-face-annoying than it already is.

Well, one can only hope that they fix this soon.

And thanks for making this post!

EDIT: @RandomBuzziness @EuphorialQueen I should add that I also seem to get this pop-up only once per household. However, I play with aging on (normal, active household only) and do get this message even when there are no teenagers present.

    @DMDragonCT  @CGrant56  @SheriGR
Thank you all for adding your voice to this thread. I especially appreciate the confirmation that teens are not the only trigger.

I think what threw me over the edge was my household that started with two young adults.  A Servo was crafted and added to the family. Then my guy kept getting pregnant by alien abduction. By the time the three alien kids became teens I was way over seeing this pop-up even with everyone off at work or school. A way to tone this down would be much appreciated.

@EuphorialQueen I had been playing DU for about 3 weeks with two young adults without seeing that pop-up. Then I added a teen to my household & almost immediately got that pop-up, but only one single time. The teen has been in my household about one week now (real time) and the pop-up has not appeared since that one time. I play with aging turned off. Maybe it's some combo of having a teen in the household plus others approaching their birthdays?
