I've tried this cheat numerous times on various career paths. I have tried multiple forms of capitalization, checked my spelling, and ensured that the cheats are for PC. I even restarted my computer and repaired the game. Still, when I enter this cheat in the console (careers.promote business), Sims are not being promoted/their career level is not rising. I have all of the EA Sims packs and kits. I have not, nor have I ever, downloaded mods. I am on a PC laptop.
Other cheats (testingcheats on, bb.moveobjects, and cas.fulleditmode) are on and functioning. It just seems to be the promotion cheats that are not working.
Fixed after a bunch more googling. For the business cheat specifically, you need to type careers.promote adult_business this may work for other promotion cheats that are being finicky.
