that just gives me a quarter tile, either horizontal or vertical, which I can then use to make my own design, but nothing actually goes diagonal.
If you put two quarters next to each other (in the same square) you've got a half.
and if you put 4 you have a whole - and I can create a cool design that way too, however none of it results in a diagonal pattern. See below, I can go either horizontal or vertical. the little green triangle shows the area affected with each selection. So I can make those little squares, but none of it is diagonal.
