Always keep a backup of your saves folder on your desktop. That way, if any sim dies of laughter, (as has happened to me so many times!) you'll always be able to go back on a save and change circums...

@Gednaa I had the exact same thing happen to me! It was my first emotional death after YEARS of playing the game. He moved in after a marriage and immediately died of laughter (I guess he had such a good time at the wedding?). I had tried in the past to get emotional deaths to trigger but never succeeded... go figure lol. I was able to restore a previous save for the unintended death, which is something everyone can do up to a point automatically.
You can also, if you notice it, sleep off the emotional effects if you're not able to do the other things to bring them down. BUT you have to catch it before it's too late!!

@ValFreya13 I'd been playing my sims for sims years when Constant Died, so was so badly upset to lose him after all that work and time and he's a lovely sim. I was shocked how it affected me. I was telling my fiancé the next day and he was stunned that I was so emotional about (what he calls cartoon characters)! Yes, I knew about sleeping things off and you can do it for elders if they exert themselves too much. (When you get that notification that they could die from whatever activity they're doing!). Yeah, you have to be quick on the draw!
