Game feezes but doesn’t crash

Ever since the new life and death pack came out my game has been completely freezing. it seems to happen randomly, but at the moment it seems to freeze within like 2 minutes of me starting game play. i can sit in the menu screen for as long as i want, but as soon as i play a save it freezes. It doesn’t let me do anything but the game is still running. I.E i can open the settings menu, and click on things but nothing happens. Time doesn’t move and my sims seem like they are stuck in a loop of whatever they were doing when it froze. I also can’t save or exit the game, i have to fully restart my laptop. At the moment it seems like the game freezes at 4:06 AM game time, every single time.

I have the most recent update, my laptop is less than 3 years old and everything on it is up to date as well. I do play with cc and mods, but i updated to the most recent version of all my script mods and as far as i know my cas cc has never caused me any issues.

  • @AveryHeim I'm not sure if it was exactly the same but I had similar problems a while ago. I was playing in a student dorm and all of a sudden my game just froze but without crashing. All the Sims were stuck in a loop of the actions they were doing when the freezing started, for example one Sim was doing his homework and he was stuck in his chair writing but I couldn't click on him or any other Sim to reset them. Also the surroundings like trees were still moving. But I couldn't click on anything and was not able to exit my game or go to the desktop. The only choice I had was to completely shut down my computer in the worst possible way and start it again.

I did the whole 50/50 method to see if the cause was one of my mods, but after I was through with that I still had the problem.

So I tried something else. I started the game again and immediately stopped what the Sim was doing and traveled with him to another lot. That solved the time freeze on a specific time, but unfortunately the freezes came back again once in a while.

So I started to play very cauciously and save literally every few minutes, but before saving I always checked that the Sims are clickable and not stuck in a loop.

This way I had to play like a week or so and to tell you the truth, it was a pain in the butt.

The "solution" in my case was: Everytime the freezing started, I had to shut down my computer, and when I restarted the game, I made sure to cancel the actions my Sims were performing or about to perform and do something else or travel.

I had to do this for about one ingame week and then somehow it resolved itself over time. The sudden freezes never came back to this day, and it's been maybe a year since then.

I never found out what the cause was or what fixed it, but as long as it never comes back, I'm fine with it.

I wish you all the best for your game and I hope that somehow you can find a solution.

i went through my mods, none of them seem to be the cause of it, and i also tried what you said. as soon as i loaded in i immediately went to a different lot, but it still froze. I even immediately reset my sim, switched to a different sim and left the lot, but it still froze. after that i tried switching to a different household within the same save and right on cue at 4:05 AM my game froze.

i’m not entirely sure what to do now, but i’m open to any more suggestions 🙂

I was looking for this thread and could't find it at first because it was moved.

I'm so sorry that it did not help in your case. ☹️ What a weird bug.

Hm, the only idea that comes to my mind is this: Maybe you accidently saved a buggy action with the current save and when you load the save it is already in progress and cannot be stopped anymore.

Do you by any chance have an older save? If so, you could try and load it, just to see if the freeze happens there too.
