Get to work problem

Hi,

I have a question about Get To Work. I’ve been looking for the answer but still can’t find it.

Is it possible for my sim to get a job at the place that they don’t own? For example, i built a reataurant and I want to hire my sim as a waiter without making him buying the restaurant.

  • @knorret Restaurants are from Dine Out, not Get to Work. And in a vanilla game, you can only own them, not work there. You might want to check out the Dine Out Reloaded mod, however.

In Get to Work, you can get a job at 3 different places you don't own: the police station, hospital, and science lab. These locations are not actually on the map and only accessible through following your Sim to work as a police officer, doctor, or scientist.

    Thanks for the reply!
    I have one more question.

lets say I made a Sim who owns a shop/restaurant. Can I hire someone my Sim knows? Like another Sim that I made. If yes, will this sims have an info on his profile that he is employed?

  • @knorret for me, the staff options for each lot have always appeared to be randomly selected and I can't change it. Sometimes it's someone I've created, in fact it annoys me when it's a Sim that is already employed as a freelancer or a Sim who owns a different retail lot. A Sim can be employed in retail and they can be employed as a chef, but I haven't seen those carry over to my retail lot or my restaurant. I've tried to add various Sims to the retail career/barista career/bar tending in the hope of seeing them at my lots or at other bars or cafés but it doesn't happen that way for me. I don't know if there are mods for this as I'm on console.

But I do know that the staff options available remain the same, so if you exit and try again the same Sims will be on the list the next time you look. I know this because I did a test for a staff uniform problem for EA on shops, restaurants and vets.

@knorret    Hi!  So I think you probably know by now that it isn't possible to play as a waiter, chef or host at a restaurant.  However, if your sim(s) own a restaurant and you want to hire your own sims, then there is a mod for that.  You will just need to search for mods that allow you to hire certain sims including your own.  If you don't want to use a mod for this, you might try the steps outlined in this tutorial created by AHQ Hero crinrict.

This is pretty old now and I haven't tested it, so I don't know if it will still work but it might be worth a try.  Good luck!

@JonaO703 That's a great tip. I do mine kind of the opposite way to that. I see who is on the list first, then I locate them in Other Households and edit them (because of the RNG nightmares) note their name to bring them into my game more and avoid culling them. When I go back to the staff list they are still there but it's the edited version that I've just altered.
I started doing this because I was getting a bug with non binary staff. I made a whole selection of staff non binary after they appeared on my staffing selections to test it exhaustively in every setting I could think of. I found I could change everything about them (except traits) but they would still be on the list for each retail/vet/restaurant...just with a glow up!
