Grief system

Okay, so it's a bit of a rant, but I find the grief system very annoying.

My sims are constantly sad, (I'm playing on the short life because I'm working on the alphabet legacy.) But sims just drop dead like flies and not a day goes by with my sims not being sad because of someone they know dying.

I think the most annoying and unrealistic thing is when a sims grandparent dies which had no relationship at all to their grandkids, and the grandkids are inconsolable.

To give a bit of context. Briar, the mother son in my family had a very toxic relationship with her father Ted. Briar moved out as a teen, never saw Ted again. Now I just got the pop-up that Ted died of old age, and Briar's 2 children, who never met Ted in their life (teens), are absolutely inconsolable with grief because grandfather died. It's so annoying, like, you guys never even met the dude, and he was toxic as hell.

Is there away to make the grief system less annoying to play with, or even toggle it off entirely? Because the gameplay is getting frustrating because my sims are always extremely sad.  I'm playing on console, so I can't download or install mods.

Any piece of advice is welcome!

  • Depending on the packs you own, there are a few in-game ways to speed the grief timer. Journal writing from Parenthood or L&D packs, blog about feeling on the PC (base game), there is a grief counseling option on the phone from the L&D pack. Basically any option that would speed down the timer is in the blue sad emotion hue. There isn't a way to disable emotional states, as that was the gimmick for this iteration of the franchise.
