How do you get started on Herbalism

I've tried mousing over and clicking on nearly /every/ plant-type in Outdoor Retreat's Forest; and all I come up with is "Out of season" plants, and Strawberries....where do I find the herbs that are...

@LeissaMyst From the way you describe the issue, I'm assuming you have the Seasons expansion pack. So, to get the plants in Granite Falls, you need to be there when they are in season. The only season that all 10 of the OR plants needed for Herbology are in season is in the summer. So you need to go there in that season. Some are available in the Spring and Fall but Summer is the only season where they are available at the same time.
The plants and insects are spread out between the three areas in Granite Falls. Some are in the area where the rentals are. Some are in Granite Falls State Park. And the remainder are in the Deep Wood where the hermit's house is. You will need at a minimum, 2 days in each area for the plants to grow and for the fruit to appear. Fruit appearing on the plants is just like in the rest of the worlds. Everything appears between 5 - 5:30 AM every day once the plant reaches full size.
Since you've probably got to kill some time until the plants bear fruit, you can also go fishing to catch the fish that are unique to Granite Falls in all areas.

This could also explain why my science facility in get to work only has harvestable plants once per save game...the timing anyway...

@LeissaMyst Yes, ever since Seasons changed how gardening works, you can not harvest any plants at the lab since you are not there at 5 AM. So you need to bring what you need for serums with you when you go to work there.

  Can you still buy the seeds to get full plants from the potting trays (haven't checked tbh)? That's what I /always/ did for plants even before installing seasons; because they would never grow even before then :/

    @LeissaMyst Only certain seeds can be purchased through planters. Some can be purchased on the computer. I think, if memory serves, the herbalist plants all must be found in the wild or the herbalist's garden.
