Imaginary Friend

I have worked on my imaginary friend through childhood with my sim but cheated my sims age up and now when I try to make the imaginary friend real they just kind of disappear. I am assuming this is a bug but I was really looking forward to my imaginary friend becoming a sim that I could play as.

Can you try with more space around them, maybe even outside? Or if the option is gone now, recover an older version of the save before you tried to make them real, then try again with more space?
There's a bug report here, sounds like a few people have had luck with moving outside or to a bigger room.
