Hello, Sims Community!

Lately I've been experiencing some extreme glitches in my game all of a sudden that have made the game unplayable for me and I'm just trying to figure out what may be the reason.

I will start by clarifying that I do not use and never have used any mods or custom content in my game.  I have only used some cheats, such as to increase needs occasionally, including the "cas.fulleditmode" cheat to edit some of my Sims' children after growing up.  I'm just trying to figure out why my game has been acting up so badly all of a sudden and I'm wondering if it could be related to my use of certain cheats because I noticed that even when I type "testingcheats off" and it says that cheats are disabled I still have this "Change Sim" option present with mirrors and dressers that allows me to go into the full create-a-sim mode, where I can edit facial features and everything as if I were starting a new game.  Restarting the game doesn't change this; it still remains.  Neither does the Repair option through Origin get rid of it or fix anything.  None of the other cheats seem to be present after entering "testingcheats off", just this one.  Is it supposed to remain on with the save file it was used in after entering it only once?  I may have forgotten to type in "testingcheats off" a few times before leaving my game, so I don't know if this would have damaged the game and created issues.

From my research on this so far a lot of the glitches seem to be pretty specific things that others are experiencing, which include Sims stopping their current action to stretch or bake the white cake, furniture disappearing, and accumulation of Future Cubes in the inventory.  I won't go into too much detail because I know there are already threads about it possibly linking it to the Eco Lifestyle expansion pack, which I may try uninstalling for the time being, but if someone could provide more information on whether improper use of cheats can cause issues like this I would greatly appreciate it, and if someone could tell me if there is a way to turn off the "cas.fulleditmode" cheat, that would be great.  Thank you so much!

  • @simerika16 I've only been playing Sims 4 for just over a year but as far as I can remember I have always been able to edit many things in CAS without using the cas.fulleditmode cheat, including changing facial features on existing Sims. The things I can't change without the cheat are age, body sliders, traits, and editing household relationships. There might be more, I'll have to check, but pretty much everything else I can change without using the cheat. Are you able to change the body sliders, etc., in your game without the cheat?

This clarifies everything so much.  I guess that "Change Sim" option is normal then because I just checked again and I see that it has all of the same options as you and nothing more.  I guess didn't realize that this was a part of the game now before using the cheat.  I haven't played for a year and I'm just coming back to it now.

Thank you so much for providing a comparison!

Have you had any issues occurring recently that are similar to any of the bugs that I mentioned, and if so do you also have the Eco Lifestyles expansion pack?

Hi @simerika16 🙌 Yes I do have the Eco Lifestyle EP and yes I am also seeing some of those same things in my game. I'm fairly certain that what you are seeing is not due to using cheats. I like to use the cas.fulleditmode cheat pretty much every time I play because I love editing Sims. I have never noticed any side-effects where using this cheat has caused problems in other parts of my game. The cas.fulleditmode cheat does not stay active after I exit the game so I do have to re-enter it every time I play.

Much of what you are describing does sound like it could be related to the new N.A.P. system from Eco Lifestyle. I don't think they are necessarily considered to be bugs because they are by design, though I would definitely agree that the NAP system could use some tweaking (some of it might be so far out of control that yeah maybe they are considered to be bugs?). For now I keep NPC voting for NAPs disabled in my game options so I can have full control of which NAPs are active in my Sim's neighborhood. There are several NAPs that I personally choose to avoid. You do have the option to shift + click on one of the community voting boards or a mailbox and instantly repeal any NAPs you don't want active in your game. According to the patch release notes there was some kind of change made today on how NPCs follow enacted policies in their home neighborhoods. I'm still trying to figure out exactly how this affects the game (to me the patch notes were a little confusing on this issue) but this might make things a lot better. I'm sure the Eco Lifestyle still has things that need improvement, but by choosing which NAPs I want active and disallowing any I wish to avoid (for now) I am very much enjoying playing this pack.

@billybobjoesuzy Are you playing on a PC, a Mac, or a console (XBox One or PS4)? If you restart the game do you still have that error?

When using the cas.fulleditmode cheat, you have to have testingcheats enabled first. After you enter the cas.fulleditmode cheat there won't be any message in the cheat window there are for some other cheats like bb.moveobjects. The only difference you'll see in your game is you'll have more options in CAS to edit pre-existing Sims. The cas.fulleditmode cheat does not stay active after you exit the game.
