June Top Questions - Patch Notes, Diving Knives, Half Tiles and Console Cheats!
Sul sul,
Welcome to the June AHQ Highlights! Each month @EA_Solaire and I will spotlight both the recent contributions of The Sims 4 community on these boards as well as take some time to answer any common questions we've observed around new content, game mechanics, or anything else we feel needs more light shed on it. This is not a place to ask about game bugs or technical issues, please keep those in the Bug Reports and Technical sections for their respective platforms so that we can track them appropriately.
Since this is our first edition, we'd like to go over some common questions and issues from both past and present.
Before we get started, we had some big news this month to recap:
- On June 1st, we received two new kits - the Grunge Revival and Book Nook kits!
- June 13th brought us a new game update, so be sure you're caught up on the patch notes here.
- On June 20th, we received our most recent Sims Delivery Express, which included the R&B radio station, new book color swatches, and a new scenario entitled Family Fortune.
- June 20th also brought us this season's roadmap entitled Take the Reins.
- June 22nd brought us the official reveal trailer for the newest expansion - Horse Ranch!
- And lastly, on June 27th, we had a Behind The Sims livestream, which you can watch here.
Now let's jump in to our questions 🙂
Can I play The Sims 4 via an external hard drive?
- Yep, and moving your game is a fairly straightforward process to boot. Check out the walkthrough that @puzzlezaddict put together here if you're curious about freeing up some space on your laptop or desktop, or simply just want to take your Sims with you wherever you go.
Can I transfer DLC between EA app, Epic or Steam?
- This is a great question and one we see often. Given that The Sims 4 is available on a variety of storefronts like the EA app, Epic Game Store, Steam and Origin for Mac, and there is pretty much ALWAYS a sale happening on one of those platforms 😉 Our @EA_Solaire does a great deep dive on how content is shared between systems on our side. Please note: Cross-platform DLC compatibility isn't officially supported at this time, so your mileage may vary with Epic/Steam and EA app cross compatibility.
Why can't I connect to The Gallery?
- One of our most viewed topics this month was related to Gallery connectivity. Typically these older posts see a lot more traffic when we're in a maintenance window, or looking into an issue related to connectivity. If you find yourself running into issues related to connectivity on The Gallery it's usually a good idea to check Answers HQ for other users who may be reporting the same thing, make sure you check our stickied thread here for more information and steps on resolving the issue yourself if it's not down!
How do I change the language in the Sims 4?
- This one is a bit trickier as the available languages differ depending on where you purchased the game, and the region you're connected from. Please do note that at the moment, the EA app does not support changing the language of a currently installed game, so you'll need to uninstall The Sims 4 from your PC before you follow the steps here:
Redeem the Sims 4 free base game on your account if you haven't already.
Select Download
Select Change
You will see a full list of available languages based on your region and game edition you own.
How do I get a diving knife for my diver in Island Living?
- If you're looking to progress in the diving career in Island Living, there's a crucial item you'll need before you can earn your first promotion - the diving knife. In order to find a diving knife, your Sim will need to head out into the deeper water areas of Sulani and search for the red buoys. (Note - there are both green and red buoys, the diving knives are only available at the red buoys, which are located in deeper water areas) Once you've located a red buoy, you can select it, click Dive Gear, and you'll see an option here to purchase the diving knife for 250 simoleons. You won't be able to find any red buoys in Ohan'ali Town as there is no deep water in this neighborhood, but there is one available in Mua Pel'am near the Key Point lot, and one more in Lani St. Taz to the right of the Reef Finery lot.
How do I enter cheat codes on console?
- Cheating is really just a way of life when it comes to The Sims, whether you're looking to boost your Sim's skills, add some extra funds into your household wallet, or improve your builds. To enable cheats, you'll first want to bring up the cheat-box, which you can do by pressing and holding L1 + R1 + L2 + R2 for PlayStation, and LT + RT + LB + RB if you play on Xbox. With the cheat-box open, you'll need to enter testingcheats on to enable cheats. (Please keep in mind- turning this on will disable all achievements and trophies for The Sims 4!) Once you've entered in your desired cheats, you can close out the cheat-box by pressing the O button on PlayStation, or the B button for Xbox.
How do I place a half tile in Build Mode?
- While half tiles aren't possible in The Sims 4, you are able instead to place quarter tiles, which you can use to create and customize the flooring on your lot for a fresh new look! To do this, just head into Build Mode, select the flooring you want, and press Control + F if you're playing on PC/Mac. To toggle back to a full tile size, press Control + F again. For console players, once you've got the desired flooring selected, you can toggle between full tiles or quarter tiles by pressing the X button for Xbox players, and for PlayStation players, you'll toggle between the two by pressing the [SQUARE] button.
How do I move my Sims into a new house?
- Now that we've customized our new home with Build/Buy Mode cheats and quarter tile floors, it's time to move the family in! There's actually a couple different ways you can do this, from both Live Mode and from the Manage Worlds View and we'll cover both methods. From Live Mode, you can move your family using their mobile phones - head to the Travel section of the phone, then select either Split From Household & Move to move only a select few Sims from the household, or select Move Household to move the entire family. To move your family out from the Manage Worlds View, check out the spoiler below:
First, select the family you want to move out, and you'll see these options at the lower-right hand corner. You'll want to select the More option:
Next, you'll select the Move Out Household option:
And that wraps us up for the month of June! Thanks to all of you for joining us and for taking the time to share your thoughts and experiences you've had with The Sims 4 on Answers HQ this month.
See you in July!
