Update, managed to run into this sim wandering around with a sim they were close friends with. The friend sim asked them to join their household and now they're back in my sims played households! I got lucky! Looking froward to trying the life after death gameplay. So they had their spellcaster abilities reset for some reason; as I mentioned earlier they were maxed spellcaster, every spell and potion etc., so that's a bust, but they did have all their skills and their traits, like savant, seldom sleepy, long lived, etc. which I worked hard for and are transferred over after reincarnation, or at least they're supposed to. If this happens to you I would make sure to strengthen the sims connection to the physical world from their urn, and then invite them to join your household later when you run into them around their urn. At least that worked for me.
