Sims don't die as soon as the bar starts blinking. There's a chance that they die but they can live on a lot longer if than that.

It's official, isn't it? Mermaids live longer than humans? The equivalent of a longevity bonus feature?
- @mengzhu123 Apparently they live stupidly long, yes. My mermaid lived for a full sim year (28 days, since I was using the Seasons' calendar) with her age bar bubbling away.
Just now I had her eat the two kelps, and she passed away from old age INSTANTLY:
